Is that your way of asking me out on a date? ??

Maybe. If I said yes, would that entice you?

Hmm, it might. I could use a distraction.

My heart is beating a mile a minute as a huge grin breaks across my face. I know I'm a cheesy sap, but I do a fist pump in the air and let out a huge 'whoop!'

Then it's a date. I'll pick you up at 8.

You don't waste any time do you? Alright hotshot, you're on. Don't be late. ??

God, I love her quick wit, her sense of humor. We've been lightly flirting and joking like this, and it's put such a pep in my step—and hers, I hope.

Wouldn't dream of it. See you soon, Nova. ??

See ya, Blaze. ??

My heart races as I set down my phone. She said yes. An actual date with Nova. I glance at the clock—only four hours to get ready. I jump in the shower, cranking up the hot water.

Tonight has to be perfect. I'll take her out for drinks, maybe dinner. Charm her. Make her laugh. Get her to open up to me. She said she needs a distraction, so I'll be her escape.

Whatever she needs.Exactlywhat she needs. What webothneed.

I scrub myself down, pulse pounding in anticipation. After all this time, Nova Sinclair will finally bemine. She just doesn't know it yet. But she will.

I turn off the water and step out of the shower. Tonight, a new chapter of our story begins. And this is one she'll never forget.

I rifle through my closet, searching for the perfect outfit. Dark jeans, a fitted black shirt that shows off my tattoos. I spike up my hair and splash on my favorite cologne.

When I pull up outside Nova's house, she's waiting on the front porch. A tight red dress hugs her curves, sky-high heels accentuating her legs. She's a vision.

Nova slides into the passenger seat, blushing as she does so, "You look so different from what I pictured."

My heart falls, panic suddenly seizing me. I work to keep my voice controlled. "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

She smiles at me shyly, "It's a good thing. I love the tats."

I laugh. "What did you think I looked like? Some kind of nerd?"

She laughs with me. "I honestly don't know," she admits.

I grin, leaning over to kiss her cheek. She smells like cherries and sin. "Well, you look exactly how I pictured you."

A blush creeps into her cheeks. "Smooth talker."

"Only with you. I'm actually quite shy," I admit as I put the car in drive, palm tingling from where I touched her skin. "How about dinner and drinks?"

"Dinner sounds perfect." Nova smiles, the tension in her expression fading away.

Just as planned.

Over pasta and wine, we laugh and tease each other. I tell her jokes I know will make her snort with laughter. With each giggle, the adoration in my chest expands.

"How's Dylan?" I ask, knowing she'll light up talking about her brother.

"Don't you know?" she teases. "You're on the headset with him every night."

I grin back at her. "Yeah, he seems pretty happy nowadays."
