He tweaks my cheek affectionately, “I should’ve known known!”

Carla lines up more shots than are necessary and raises a tequila, “Here’s to Lara Kairn, the only one of you idiots smart enough to leave this place!”

Cassidy and I raise ours, then Bret takes one and says, “And now she’s back.”

“Not fortoolong though,” I round things up and wink. “Cheers!”

We all knock back our tequila and I use the beer to wash it down.

I don’t drink a lot and nobody will ever convince me that tequila tastes good. It’s low in calories and gets you fucked up, and in my humble opinion, that’s about all it’s good for.

“Hey, hot stuff!” I turn and see Nick, Cassidy’s older brother, all the way across the room. He’s been flirting with me since I was sixteen. He’s obviously off-limits, but so,so,hot. Blonde and blue-eyed, like his sister…just a lot scruffier and wearing the God damn leather.

He, like Bret, is also looking quite delicious. The reason why I’m back in town…well, one of them…because I want to lose my virginity.

I know that sounds like a really stupid reason to travel from Massachusetts to California, but I busted my ass through high-school and medical school and stayed away from boys, so I wouldn’t get distracted.

Too many people get messed up because of their‘feelings’and crap like that. Twenty-percent of the people from our high-school are already married and settled down in this piece of shit town.

Me? I’m goal orientated. I’m organized, keep a good schedule and firmly believe there’s a time for everything. And now, it was time to pop my cherry.

I’m not insensitive to what’s going on here, but it’s a thing to do and get over with. I don’t want to be a thirty-year-old virgin, and I’m not planning on falling in love with the first cock that goes inside me.

I do, however, want it to be with someone I trust, someone I like…and someone I think will be in my life for the rest of it.

On short list of candidates is Bret and Nick…but Nick is a no-go.I don’t know if Cassidy would be cool with it. Well, shemightbe if I was going tomarryher brother, but I’m definitely not staying in this town with these bikers—I’m going to be a doctor!

Bret is the logical choice because he was my brother’s best friend and he isn’t around anymore. Make of that what you will…but I don’t think I could possibly trust anyone more than him. We share a strong bond and I know he’ll always be here for me.

I suppose Nick will as well…but we’ll see what happens. I greet Nick as he comes in for a hug, “Heeeey!”

He gives me playful cuddle and lightly squeezes my butt. Why do people keep doing that?Maybe I’ve put on weight. “I heard a rumor you were coming back. I’m glad it was true.”

I’m not sure if I turn red or not. “Aw, shut up! Here,” I pass him a shot. “Drink this.”

“Hey there, little lady,” it’s Dominic, the president of theTwistedReapersand the silver-fox of the group. He always sneaks up on you. He’s a 6-foot 5-inch tank and a consummate gentleman.

I put my hand out and he shakes with me. We were neverthatclose. I didn’t grow up with him the way I had with Bret and Nick, but after my brother became a member here, he sort of took an interest in me.

“I take it school went well?”

“It did,” I smile. “Four years non-stop and now I’ve got a three-month break till residency. That’ll be another four or five years. Hopefully four.” Dom is a bit intimidating. I probably come off like a shy teenager.

“Good, good,” his voice is so deep, he doesn’t have to raise it to be heard above the noise. “Drinks are on us tonight, so you have a good time. You’re family here. Always will be.” He squeezes my shoulder and smiles.

“Thanks, Dom.”

He strokes my shoulder in a fatherly kind of way and walks off.

“Ooh,” Cassidy whispers into my ear. “Looks like we’re going to get messed up tonight!”

I laugh, “Don’t club members drink for free anyway? You’re Nick’s sister.”

“No!” Her eyes go wide. “No patch, no drinks! I have to pay all the time…well, Nick pays for me, but you know what I mean.”

“I thought family members were included?”

“They’re not,” Bret wraps his hand around my waist. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s on account of Luke. Dom took it really bad. You weren’t here so you didn’t see, but the whole thing changed him. It changed all of us. I guess he’s giving you Luke’s benefits in his stead.”
