Since that night, Lara’s attitude about being here has done a complete one-eighty.

Dom has had task after task lined up for her and she takes on each one with a smile—never complaining, never whining.

She also has plenty of help whenever she needs it, from me, Nick and anybody else who happens to be around on the day.

Anybody but Chase, I mean. He’s been staying away from Lara like she’s carrying the plague, but that’s fine because I never really got along with him anyway.

He was an asshole when Luke and I were prospects. He’s still an asshole now.

So far, Lara’s worked through cleaning and reorganizing every room in the clubhouse, from the kitchen to the bedrooms and bathrooms, the storerooms, the private bar, the public bar and she’s even had a go at the garage.

She’s given everything the woman’s touch they all so desperately needed—Everything but the garage.

It’s true about the behavior of men…we’re fine to go without the little comforts that are easy to produce…simply because we can’t be bothered.

It’s sort of like what they say about theSpartans—we favor functionality over aesthetics.

But…air freshener does make a hell of a difference.

When it comes to Lara being here…I might be as giddy as a schoolgirl, but I’m under no illusions.

I know she’s going to be leaving in nine-weeks. I’ve even told her she can do a lot better than me.

She knows how I feel about her and I know how she feels about me…and we both know her life isn’t meant to be here.

She knows she’s destined for greater things.

But, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy things while they last…and man…are we enjoying things!

Since we know she’s leaving, we’re not going around making the relationship public…I mean…if you can even call it a relationship.

What Lara and I have is something more—I’ll always be there for her.Always.

But…I’m ready to let go when the time comes. She deserves better…and I’ll make sure she gets it.

“Okay,” Lara stands from the table. “Who’s helping me clean up?”

Casey stands with Matt and Fletch. “I think it ought to be our turn by now. We’ve got you Lara. You sit.”

She does, “Ooh! Why, thank you, kind sirs.”

There’ve never been more smiles than since Lara’s been here. She makes everyone feel special. I don’t know how she does it.

Just then, I see Dom pull out his phone and stare at it with a frown. “Excuse me,” he gets up and walks away.

Lara pokes me in the ribs, “What’s the about?”

“You got me,” I shrug, then stand and walk toward Dom.

His back is to me and he doesn’t hear me approach with the grass under my boots.

I get there in time to hear him say, “Okay, thanks for letting me know,” before he hangs up.

“What is it?”

Dom turns to me looking pissed off, “He’s out.”

“Who?”
