I stare down at my phone, desperate to stay anywhere but here tonight. The first person I think to call is Courtney. But … what if this guy is watching my apartment? I don’t want him following me to her place and risk putting her in danger. Besides, she works at the club too. She could easily be another subject for this crazy guy’s obsession.

So, without thinking, I phone the only person I can think of. The only person who knows this is going on at all.

Asher picks up after one ring. “Olivia?”

“I—I think—” I stutter. “Someone left a note at my apartment. I think it’s the same person who attacked me.”

His tone immediately changes. “Send me your address and I’ll be there immediately.”

There’s a knock on my door within thirty minutes, and I glance through the peephole before opening it just to make sure it’s really Asher. When I do, Asher immediately looks me over, his face awash with concern.

“Are you okay?” he asks, stepping inside.

I close the door behind him, nodding. “I’m fine. I didn’t see anyone. I just found this note on the floor when I walked in.” I show it to him.

He takes it from me, staring down at it. “Inside?” Alarm rings in his voice.

“I think it was probably tucked in the doorframe and fell when I walked in.”

He nods.

“And … it’s similar to other notes I’ve gotten.”

Asher’s head snaps up from the note to meet my gaze. “Othernotes?” he demands.

I nod, tucking my hair behind my ear and clenching my jaw. “I found two notes in my locker at the club. I assumed they were old or had gone to the wrong person or something. But now, with this …” I gesture to the note in Asher’s hands. “I think it’s the same guy who attacked me in the parking lot. It’s all too much of a coincidence for it not to be.”

Asher clenches his jaw, gripping the note tightly. “Pack a bag,” he says suddenly. “You’re coming to my place.”

I balk. What? I’d hoped he’d drive me to a hotel nearby, escort me somewhere I’d feel safer, but staying at his place? I shake my head. “Asher, I don’t want to impose.”

“Grab a bag,” he repeats, and his tone leaves no room for argument.

I simply do as he says, going to my room, grabbing an overnight bag from the closet and filling it with toiletries, a pair of pajamas, and clothes for work tomorrow. After I’m done, I meet Asher in the living room.

“All set?” he asks.

I nod.

“Good.” He nods toward the door, and we head out.

I can’t help but glance around suspiciously as we pad down the steps to the sidewalk and make our way to his car. I don’t see anyone around, no suspicious cars, nothing out of the ordinary. But it doesn’t mean that someone isn’t here, watching.

I get into the passenger seat, and Asher puts the car in drive, pulling out into the road. Clutching my overnight bag to my chest, I sit in silence, staring out the window at the passing neighborhood, then the freeway, then into downtown Seattle.

“You live downtown?” I ask.

He simply nods.

Within a few minutes, we’re pulling into a parking garage of one of the upscale apartment complexes downtown. Asher parks, and I get out and follow him to the entrance. He holds the door for me, and I step through into the complex’s massive lobby.

I glance around, my eyes wide. The lobby is large with a beautifully decorated fountain in the middle surrounded by plants and foliage. Couches and chairs litter the area, and a front desk sits off to the side.

“This way,” Asher says, pulling me from my thoughts. I shake my head, following him to the elevator on the far wall.

We step inside, and Asher types in a keycode to the pad on the wall. The elevator takes off. I watch the numbers on the screen above the door. My eyebrows raise as the number climbs to double digits, finally stopping at floor number twenty.

The doors open, and Asher gestures for me to enter first.
