As happy as I am to marry Adrian and start a life with him, I can’t help but wonder if throwing a baby into the mix is going to be too much.

You know everything you need to know about Adrian, including that he’s going to be a great father. Look at how much he cares about his brother. If that’s not an indication of the kind of heart he has, I don’t know what is.

When I sit down on the chair and gesture to Adrian to make himself comfortable, I realize it’s not Adrian I’m worried about. I’m the one who came here in search of healing and a brand new start.

Out of the all scenarios I imagined, getting married to the owner of the ranch and having a baby with him, isn’t one of them.

I tap my pen against the notepad. “Are you sure you’re okay with me writing this? We don’t have to do it, you know. I can tell Gina you changed your mind. She’ll get over it.”

“I’ve never given an exclusive before. I've never accepted an offer for one before.” Adrian sat down in the middle of the bed and linked his fingers together. “It’s not a secret that I’m not a fan of the press.”

I chew on the tip of my pencil. “Why?”

“Because I feel like media is biased. And as much as we’d like to believe in freedom of the press, it’s just a construct.”

I let out a low whistle. “That’s a pretty heavy accusation to make. You don’t pull any punches, do you?”

Adrian offers me a small smile. “Are you asking as my fiancée or as a journalist?”

I hold his gaze. “Both.”

Adrian leans forward, the smile lighting up his face and highlighting the stubble peppered across his jaw. “You can ask me anything you want, Danielle. But I reserve the right not to answer.”

I scribble something down. “Fair enough. I’m assuming Brian is off-limits.”

Adrian shifts from one side to the other. “I’ve spoken to Brian about the article, and he agreed that I can discuss him briefly.”

I raise an eyebrow. “What does that mean?”

“It means I can acknowledge that he’s had trouble in the past but that he’s working on changing and redeeming himself,” Adrian replies, without breaking our gaze. “Beyond that, I can’t go into detail.”

I underline something in my notepad. “Are you willing to discuss your aversion to the press?”

Adrian chuckles. “Now who’s the one who’s going all in?”

I set the notepad down with a thud. “I really need this article to be good. I need it to be fun and engaging, and I’m worried I don’t know how to do that.”

“You’ve written puff pieces before. How is this any different?”

“Puff pieces are heavy on the emotion and corniness. A piece like the one I’m working on is meant to balance humor, levity, heart, and logic. It’s a tricky and fine line to navigate.”

Adrian nods. “I can imagine. I have a suggestion.”

“I’m all ears.”

Adrian stands up in one fluid movement and holds his hand out to me. After a quick look at his face, I allow him to pull me to my feet.

He spins me out and then back into his arms with a grin that makes the butterflies in my stomach explode.

“Your suggestion is for us to dance?”

Adrian smiles and spins me out again. “It helps relax the body.”

In one smooth move, he dips me back. The breath leaves my body in a whoosh.

I link my fingers over his neck and pull him down for a deep kiss.

He smiles against my mouth and pulls me back up.
