She drags a chair across the floor, takes my hand in hers, and smiles.

I manage to muster a half-smile before exhaustion takes over, and my eyes fall shut.

It doesn’t take me long to fall asleep.

All my dreams are of my babies.

I stare down at my daughter’s beautiful face and touch my pinkie to her tiny nose. “I still can’t believe they’re here.”

Adrian is standing next to the bed, rocking our son back and forth. “Me either.”

“What are the chances of us having fraternal twins?”

Adrian glances up and blows out a breath. “It is possible. I have identical twins genes from both of my parents, but we got fraternal twins.”

I frown. “Interesting.”

Adrian is still rocking our son back and forth. “They are just perfect, just like their mom.”

I smile and look back down. “They are perfect! Just like their dad.”

It was a surprise to hear the doctor announce the arrival of our son, shortly after our daughter.

My mind is still reeling, and my entire body feels like I’ve been run over by a truck. But it is all worth it.

When Adrian hands over our sleeping son, I pass him our daughter, and my smile grows wider.

Adrian sits down in the chair next to the bed. “So, I guess we should choose their names.”

“I like Miles for our son,” I whisper, before tucking him against my chest. “He looks like a Miles, don’t you think?”

Adrian leans forward. “And I like Nyla. Miles and Nyla. It has a nice ring to it.”

Slowly, he hands me our daughter. Both babies nestle against me, breathing quietly. Adrian climbs onto the bed, as carefully as possible, and drapes an arm over my shoulders.

“Welcome to the world, my precious little babies.”

“We’re your Mommy and Daddy,” Adrian adds, in an equally soft voice. “And we love you so much already.”

I press my head against his side and smile. “I love our little family, Adrian.”

“Me too."

THE END
