I wish he could remove his glasses so I could see his eyes. Meanwhile, I gape at him like a fish. Hastily, I snap my mouth shut and let my hand fall to my side.

Maureen, the receptionist, quietly slides a key card over to me. I’m not aware that I’ve picked it up until it’s in the palm of my hand.

And I have no idea when I bridged the distance between myself and the handsome rancher, but now there are only a few inches of space between us.

This place is not half bad. I smile at the thought.

Why is my heart pounding wildly against my chest?

Fuck.

He is just a man.

Think about something else. Anything else. Before you do something stupid.

“Let me get your bags.” He reaches for them before I can protest and makes a sweeping hand gesture. “Shall we?”

“Is this a habit of yours?”

“What?”

He holds the door open for me, and we step outside. “Swooping in to make yourself look better.”

“Only if the guests are pretty.”

I let out a nervous laugh and fall into step beside him. “Does that line actually work on women?”

“You tell me.” He wheels the bags over the smooth and even terrain, and the sun is hot on the back of my neck. Beads of sweat have formed there, and on the sides of my face.

But I know I can’t check myself with the phone camera. No matter how much I want to.

I don’t need to be just another woman falling all over him.

“Are you going to tell me you’ve never used the line before?”

He touches two fingers to his chest. “Scout’s honor.”

I laugh and fan myself “So, you were a boy scout too? Why am I not surprised by that?”

Of course he was. He’s like a perfect specimen of a man.

There are rows and rows of cabins on either side. All of them are painted the same shade of dark brown, and all have a small porch out front.

We stop outside of one of them, and he holds his hand out for the key card. After swiping the door it clicks unlocked, and he pushes it before stepping to the side.

I step in, and my eyes dart over the interior, taking in the double doors leading into a spacious bedroom with a window overlooking the greenery.

A small kitchen looks surprisingly sleek with modern appliances. And the living room set is brown leather and overlooks a fireplace with a mantle and a TV mounted to the wall.

In a daze, I venture further into the cabin and take in the tile-floored bathroom with a claw foot tub and a glass shower stall.

Although I have no idea what I was expecting, I know it wasn’t this.

This is much nicer and bigger than I imagined.

“Everything is pretty straightforward.” He leaves my bags by the door and lingers in the doorway. “If you’ve got any problems, just use the landline. We’ve got an in-house electrician and plumber.”

I swivel around to face him. “This ranch really has thought of everything, hasn’t it?”
