I grimace. “Fine. But just so you know, I wanted to look nice today. And you’re ruining it with the helmet and the life jacket.”

Adrian smiles and secures the helmet around my head. “You’d look amazing in a paper bag.”

I blush and reach for the life jacket. “At least let me put it on when we get to the river. There’s no reason I have to walk around the camp like this.”

After the other night in the woods, I don’t need to give the other guests more reasons to give me strange looks.

Wandering around the main grounds in the night wasn’t my best idea. Even though no one was around when we got back. But after Adrian dropped me off, I wasn’t able to sleep.

I’d tried watching a show, reading a book, and writing in my journal.

But was so wound up and I knew that only fresh air would do me good.

I spent half the night spinning in circles just to work off the excess energy.

Adrian brushes his hand against mine as we climb down the steps and fall into step beside each other. “It’s going to be a lot of fun, trust me.”

“Is there anyone else coming?”

“You’re the only one who signed up.”

I grin. “So, I get you all to myself, huh? I like where this is going. On a completely unrelated note, how long has this river rafting activity been going on?”

Adrian throws his head back and laughs. “We’ve done it hundreds of times. I know what I’m doing, don’t worry.”

“I’m not saying you don’t. I’m just wondering why there aren’t any other guests.”

Getting to spend an entire day out on the water with Adrian sounds too good to be true.

There has to be a catch.

“Today is spa day,” Adrian says, with a quick look in my direction. “Have you even checked the schedule I gave you?”

“Sure, I have. And while we’re on the topic of schedules, I suddenly realized that mine is full. Maybe we should try river rafting on another day when it isn’t spa day.”

Adrian laces his fingers through mine. “Come on. Tt’s going to be a lot of fun. I promise.”

“But is it going to be hot stone massage, facials, and pedicures kind of fun?”

“That’s a tough standard to be held to.” Adrian drew me closer and brought my hands up to his lips for a kiss. “But I think I can get creative.”

My heart misses a beat. “Yeah? How?”

“You won’t know until you come out on the water with me.” He releases my hand, spins around to face me, and walks backward. “So, what do you say?”

“You’re trying to seduce me into river rafting with you,” I accuse, pausing to point a finger at him. “You should be ashamed of yourself.”

Adrian shrugs. “I’m not ashamed.”

With that, he darts off, and I scramble to keep up with him. As we wander through the woods, he finds excuses to stop and kiss me.

By the time we reach the river, I’m giddy and breathless and nothing can bring me down.

An inflatable boat is already waiting for us, along with two paddles. Adrian secures his helmet and life jacket before getting in and holding his hand out.

I take it and hoist myself up.

When we settle across from each other, our knees are touching. Adrian picks up his paddle. “Just do what I do, okay? We’re going to paddle in the same direction.”
