He held the door open for me as we made our way to a sleek Rolls Royce parked nearby. Opening the door, he motioned for me to get in, and I settled into the luxurious interior.

As the car glided smoothly through the streets, I focused on Alexander. This was the moment I'd been both eagerly awaiting and anxiously dreading.

My palms were slightly sweaty, and I couldn't help but wonder how this meeting with Alexander would unfold.

"Are you feeling okay?" David's voice broke through my trance.

I looked at him, startled by the question. "Oh, yes! I'm just a bit nervous, you know."

He chuckled softly. "Don't worry, Mr. Hartman is a nice guy."

His words offered a sliver of comfort, and I nodded, appreciating his attempt to ease my nerves. As the car pulled up to a grand mansion, my heart skipped.

I’d arrived at Alexander's mansion.

The chauffeur opened the door for me, and I stepped out, taking in the grandeur of Central Park South.

Before I could even reach the front door, it swung open, revealing a smartly dressed woman with blonde hair.

She looked like she stepped out of a fashion magazine, wearing a knee-length royal blue dress that perfectly accentuated her figure. It had a classic yet modern cut, and I couldn't help but feel a tad underdressed in my white blouse and black pencil skirt.

"Hello there," she said with a warm smile, her voice carrying a gentle yet confident tone and a slight accent. "You must be Ms. Parker. I'm Hilda. Please come in."

Her presence momentarily took me back.

I hadn't expected someone else to be greeting me, especially not someone so... well, put-together. I nodded, offering a slightly nervous smile.

"Yes, I'm Elizabeth. Nice to meet you, Hilda."

She held the door open for me, and as I entered the mansion, I couldn't help but marvel at its grandness.

The foyer was enhanced with elegant marble flooring and a breathtaking chandelier that hung from the ceiling like a sparkling work of art.

It’s like stepping into a different world of luxury and sophistication.

Hilda led me further into the house, her heels clicking against the marble floor. I followed her, my steps unsure of the luxurious surroundings.

We passed a curving staircase, and I saw two maids in dark blue uniforms carrying trays laden with coffee cups and delectable baked treats up the stairs.

As we continued down the lavish hallway, Hilda finally stopped before a set of double doors.

"Here we are," she said with a reassuring smile. "This is the study. Please have a seat, Ms. Parker. Mr. Hartmen will be with you shortly."

I nodded, my heart racing as I entered the room.

It’s just as impressive as the rest of the mansion. Dark wood-paneled walls exuded an air of sophistication, while leather-bound books lined ornate shelves. A large desk sat against one wall, covered in neatly arranged papers and books.

Sitting in one of the plush chairs, I tried to steady my breathing. The unexpected encounter with Hilda had added an extra layer of nervousness to the mix.

My mind raced, wondering what she thought of me and whether I’d made a good impression.

Left alone in the study, my nervous energy radiated off of me. I couldn't sit still for more than a few minutes, my fingers tapping on the chair's armrest, my gaze darting around the room like a squirrel trying to decide where to hide its acorn.

The study was enormous, its shape reminiscent of the Oval Office at the White House. The dark wood-paneled walls andregal furnishings only amplified my feeling of smallness in this grand space.

My attention was immediately drawn to the artwork hanging on the walls. Intricate paintings, each a masterpiece in its own right. They ranged from classic portraits to modern abstract pieces, a testament to their diverse taste.

I couldn’t help but recognize one of Allan’s pieces within the mix. As I admired the art, I felt a sense of awe at the privilege of being in this room.
