"I insist, I insist. You have to eat, and I have plenty. Please eat.”

With a reluctant smile, David agreed, and I set to work, toasting bread and scrambling eggs. The rich aroma of coffee filled the kitchen as I brewed a fresh cup for him.

I placed a plate of toast, eggs, and a cup of coffee before David.

"Here you go, David. Enjoy.”

He thanked me warmly, and we ate silently, avoiding each other’s eyes.

Once I finished eating, I excused myself to prepare for the day.

"I'll be just a moment. Feel free to relax here while I get ready.”

David nodded and turned his attention to Teddy, who was happily munching on his breakfast, sneaking looks at the stranger.

After my shower, I returned to the bedroom to put on the outfit I’d meticulously selected the night before.

The white shirt felt crisp against my skin as I buttoned it up, and the cool fabric of my blue jacket draped over me elegantly. Matching blue suit pants completed the ensemble.

I returned to the living room, where David and Teddy had formed a playful rivalry; ever the charmer, he attempted to curl up on David's lap while David, equally determined, resisted the feline invasion.

I smiled at the scene, watching Teddy purr and bat his eyes in a way that could disarm even the most stubborn soul.

"Looks like you two are getting along just fine," I teased, joining them in the living room.

David chuckled, his deep voice vibrating with amusement.

"Your cat has quite the personality.”

"He certainly does," I agreed, reaching down to scoop Teddy into my arms.

He protested with a half-hearted meow but soon settled, content to be carried around like the king he believed himself to be.

I sat to put on my loafers, leaning over to adjust the left one, when Teddy wriggled free from my grasp and attempted to claim David's lap. David's eyes met mine with amusement and apology as Teddy persisted.

"It seems Teddy has taken a liking to you," I said, a fond smile tugging at my lips.

David chuckled, attempting to push Teddy away while avoiding causing any offense. He seemed not to like cats.

I laughed, finishing with my shoes and standing up.

"Thank you for humoring him, David. He can be quite persistent when he wants something.”

David smiled, his gaze warm.

“It's a pleasure, Elizabeth. Cats have a special way of making life interesting and often will gravitate to those who are not interested."

With Teddy in my arms, I joined David by the door, ready to head out.

He held it open for me, a gesture of gentlemanly politeness that I appreciated. I gently placed Teddy on the sofa after ensuring he had fresh food and water in his bowls. After washing my hands, I was ready to join David for the journey ahead.

As I settled into the plush seat of the car, I couldn't help but be impressed by the smooth ride and the vehicle's comfort.

David expertly navigated through the traffic downtown, and I watched the cityscape pass by, marveling at the bustling streets and towering skyscrapers.

My fingers drummed nervously on the cold seat as I anticipated my meeting with Alexander.

Our destination was an apartment complex under construction, where I’d never been.
