"Amelia," I said, welcoming the distraction. "What's up?"

She handed me the envelope with a sly smile.

"This just arrived for you. Looks like the invite to a fundraiser, probably a formal, fancy gala for tonight."

I took the envelope from her, my curiosity piqued. Opening it, I found an elegant invitation card with intricate gold lettering.

As Amelia had guessed, it was an invitation to a high-profile fundraising gala that would take place this evening.

I glanced at the card, my mind racing with thoughts. I've previously received invitations to this event but always passedon attending. It’s known to be a gathering of influential figures from various industries.

As I pondered the invitation, "Elizabeth," I said, looking up. "Would you like to join me in attending a fundraiser tonight?"

Her eyes widened in surprise, and a faint blush colored her cheeks. She stuttered, her hazel eyes widening in shock as she tried to process my offer.

"Alexander," she finally managed to say, her voice wavering slightly. “Even if I say yes, I have nothing nice to wear to such a prestigious fundraising gala or event."

I couldn't help but smile at her concern. Her vulnerability was endearing.

"Elizabeth," I replied reassuringly. “That’s not a problem. I’m sure that Amelia will take you shopping for a dress. She has an impeccable sense of style and will help you find something perfect."

Elizabeth's brow furrowed as she paced around, deep in thought. I her determination and how she deliberated over the decision.

After what felt like an eternity, she stopped pacing and looked at me with a determined expression.

"Alright, Alexander, I'll go to the gala tonight as long as I'm not imposing or bothering Amelia."

I couldn't hide my excitement as I nodded.

"That's fantastic. I promise you won't regret it. It's going to be a memorable evening. And I can guarantee it won't be a problem for Amelia. She loves shopping and is great at perfecting looks for all occasions."

With the agreement settled, I confirmed with Amelia to take Elizabeth shopping for a dress after our conversation.

As I predicted, Amelia was thrilled to help, and her impeccable taste would ensure that Elizabeth looked stunning at the gala.

Putting my phone away, I turned back to Elizabeth, who was asking questions about our construction projects. I answered as honestly as possible without giving too many details.

With a final exchange of goodbyes and promises to meet later, David drove Amelia and Elizabeth away, leaving me in front of the partially constructed building, watching the taillights disappear into the distance.

Finally, as the workday ended, I received a text from Amelia, confirming that the shopping trip with Elizabeth had been successful and that she’d stayed to help her get ready. They were on their way to my home, due to arrive shortly.

6:56 p.m.

Istood in front of the mirror, admiring the reflection staring back at me. I couldn't help but feel a rush of nerves.

It’d been a long time since I’d attended such a high-profile event, and having Elizabeth as my date added an extra layer of excitement and uncertainty to the mix.

The doorbell chimed just as my nerves threatened to get the better of me. I took a deep breath and went to the door, my heart pounding.

When I opened it, my breath caught in my throat as I stared at the breathtaking beauty.

She stood before me, a vision of elegance and grace, wearing a stunning, expensive black gown that hugged her figure in all the right places. The dress was a work of art, with intricate lace details and a flowing train that seemed to cascade like a waterfall as she moved. Her hazel eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief, and a soft smile graced her lips.

"Wow," was all I managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper.

Elizabeth smiled. "You clean up rather nicely yourself, Alexander."

I couldn't help but grin in response.
