"I'm glad I could make it special for you.”

We spent the rest of the flight lost in conversation, sharing stories.

The hours passed quickly, and the plane touched down in New York before we knew it.

Amelia and David, who'd sat separately on the plane, bid us farewell as we deplaned.

It was just Elizabeth and me now, standing on the tarmac under the vast expanse of the night sky. We got into the waiting car and drove to Elizabeth’s apartment. We walked to her apartment together, and she allowed me to open the door.

Elizabeth turned to me with a warm smile.

"Alexander, would you like to come to my apartment for a drink or coffee? I don’t want this day to end.”

I hesitated momentarily. The offer was tempting, but I shook my head gently. "Thank you, but it's been a very long day for both of us and unfortunately, I have to head home now to finish up work that I put on hold.”

Her brows furrowed slightly, and her eyes searched mine.

"Is everything okay?”

I nodded, my smile reassuring.

"Everything's fine, but I know what will happen. I respect you too much to end all of our meetings with sex, no matter how much I enjoy it with you.”

Elizabeth blinked in understanding, her lips curving into a thoughtful smile.

“This isn’t just about sex, but you’re right. I should get some rest.”

“Goodnight, Elizabeth," I said, leaning in to hug and kiss her soft lips.

"Goodnight, Alexander," she said as we parted and gently closed the door.

Chapter Thirteen

Elizabeth

Saturday 11:43 P.M

I stumbled through the front door, arms laden with souvenirs from Disneyland and shopping bags that felt like they weighed a ton.

Thanks to Alexander, the day had been a whirlwind of laughter, adventure, and pure joy.

I'd hoped he'd come inside the apartment with me, but when he declined, I couldn't blame him, and I appreciated his thoughtfulness.

He'd assumed I wanted him to make love to me, but I just wanted his company and would have probably told him about his baby.

I reached down to stroke my belly.

I was utterly exhausted, but it was the kind of exhaustion that came after an incredible day of fun.

Closing the door behind me, I sighed in relief and finally relaxed my aching shoulders.

Disneyland had been even better than I’d ever imagined. Alexander had flown me to California, and I was still pinching myself to ensure it wasn't a dream.

As I carefully set my bags down on the living room floor, I couldn't help but recall the look on Alexander's face when we met Mickey and Minnie.

He seemed just as excited as I was, which made the experience even more magical.

But now, I was alone in my cozy little apartment with memories and souvenirs.
