I can't wait to see you too.

Chapter Eighteen

Alexander

The restaurant was elegant, with dimly lit chandeliers casting a golden glow over the room. The maître d' greeted us warmly and led us to my reserved private corner table.

It offered a view of the bustling city beyond the tall windows and would allow us to enjoy our meal away from the prying eyes of the other diners.

We settled comfortably into the plush leather seats, and the warm ambiance made it the perfect setting for a quiet evening together.

I couldn't wait to catch up with Elizabeth; it felt like it had been too long since we had spent quality time together despite having had breakfast with her and Allan the previous morning.

After we placed our orders, I gestured for the sommelier. I remembered that Elizabeth had enjoyed wine at the fundraiser, so I ordered a bottle of the Opus One Napa Valley Red™ wine on the menu.

As the sommelier presented the bottle to me, I nodded in approval. A rich and spicy aroma filled the air as he poured each of us a glass.

I raised my glass for a toast.

"To us, Elizabeth," I said with a warm smile.

Elizabeth smiled back and clinked her glass against mine.

"To us, Alexander."

As I sipped from my glass, I couldn't help but appreciate the wine’s complex flavors. Then, I noticed that Elizabeth was only sipping water.

Concerned, I asked, "Is everything all right? Don't you like the wine?"

She looked at me.

"Oh, it's not the wine, Alexander. I don't feel like drinking tonight."

I nodded, accepting her explanation.

The waiter soon delivered our dinner, and the sight of the beautifully cooked steaks made my mouth water.

I had ordered the Kobe beef sirloin eye-cooked medium-rare, while Elizabeth chose the Kobe beef filet mignon cooked medium rare.

The toppings for our steaks were lobster, stone crab, shrimp, and multiple choices of sauces, all set on the table for us to choose from. The side dishes included skillet potatoes with rosemary and onion, garlic mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and sautéed mushrooms.

Everything complemented our steaks and looked delicious. We had perfect choices and more than we could ever eat.

As I took my first bite of steak, the flavor exploded in my mouth. I glanced at Elizabeth, who smiled as she savored her filet mignon.

"This is amazing," I said between bites. "You have to try some of this. It's delicious."

She took a bite, smiling as she savored the flavors, and nodded in agreement.

We continued to enjoy our meal, alternating between eating and conversation. Elizabeth thanked me for making time for dinner with her.

"Elizabeth," I began, "you know spending time with you is always a pleasure – a highlight to my day. And you've reminded me I can afford to take time off from work."

She chuckled softly, her eyes sparkling.

"Well, I'm still grateful. It means a lot to me."

As we neared the end of our meal, I couldn't help but reflect on the simple pleasure of sharing a meal and conversation with someone special. It truly enriched my life.
