"I know I didn’t have to, but I wanted to. It’s time for us to acknowledge that we’re in a relationship. I want you to be comfortable. It’s the least I could do." And I meant it.

Overwhelmed by the gesture, she hugged me tightly.

"Thank you, Alexander. You're too generous."

As we stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, I couldn't help but feel we were taking a significant step forward. The pregnancy, the shared commitment, and even the car signaled a new chapter in our lives.

Elizabeth pulled back, her voice filled with apprehension.

"I'm scared about how Allan will react when we tell him."

I reassured her, my confidence unwavering.

"Don't worry, Elizabeth. It’ll be alright. I think I know my brother, and he may already suspect something is going on."

She smiled, a mixture of relief and anxiety in her expression. "I hope you're right."

Chapter Nineteen

Elizabeth

As David, Alexander’s driver, or… well, I guessed he was my driver now, pulled up to the curb in the town car, I received a text from Alexander.

Alexander Hartman

Less flashy, isn't it?

He wrote, accompanied by a winking emoji. I chuckled at his comment and replied.

Exactly what I needed.

Alexander had initially suggested I use the Rolls Royce, but I needed this low-key trip to reconnect with my roots.

David greeted me with a warm smile.

"Ready for this trip, Ms. Parker?"

I settled into the plush leather seat and fastened my seatbelt.

"More than you can imagine, David. Thank you for doing this. And David, please call me Elizabeth.”

David responded, “If that is what you want.”

“Yes, please. That is what I want, not the formality.”

David started the car, and we began our journey. The engine's hum and the car's gentle sway were oddly soothing. It was the perfect setting for some introspection.

Looking out the sleek black town car window, I couldn't help but smile.

The familiar sights of my hometown in New Jersey would soon be approaching, and with each passing mile, I felt a sense of nostalgia and comfort wash over me.

It had been a while since I'd visited my parents, and this road trip was the perfect opportunity to clear my head and think about my pregnancy and Alexander without any distractions.

As the miles rolled by, I couldn't help but drift into childhood memories. The houses, the tree-lined streets, and the corner store where I used to buy candy with my allowance all brought back a flood of emotions.

It was strange how returning to your roots could make you feel like a child again.

As the sun set, we pulled into the familiar driveway of my childhood home. Seeing it brought a wave of comfort and nervousness all at once.
