"We're here to support you in any way we can."

Tears welled up in my eyes again, and I nodded.

"Thank you, Dad."

My mother, who had sat across from me, couldn't contain her curiosity.

"So, who's the father?"

I took a deep breath, knowing there was no way to ease into this conversation. I had to say it out loud.

"The father is Alexander Hartman.“

My parents looked at each other in disbelief, their jaws dropping simultaneously. Given the sheer magnitude of the news, it’s a reaction I had anticipated.

My mother was the first to find her voice.

"Alexander Hartman? Allan’s brother? The billionaire?"

I nodded, feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement.

"Yes, Mom. We've been seeing each other for a while now, and things have gotten serious. We'll be getting engaged soon, and there will be an engagement party. I came here to invite you both personally."

Did I say that? What in the world have I done now?

The room was filled with a stunned silence as my parents processed the information.

It’s as though the world had turned upside down, and they were trying to make sense of it all.

Finally, my mother broke the silence, her voice filled with astonishment.

"Elizabeth, this is incredible! You're marrying a billionaire. Wow! I’m sure there is so much for you to update us on. Tell us everything."

My heart paused as I recounted how Alexander and I, being Allan's brother, had crossed paths several times. Allen and I spent a lot of time together.

It wasn’t until I was asked to interview him for the magazine that we hit it off. My parents listened with complete attention, their shock gradually giving way to happiness for their daughter.

My father, his initial surprise fading, grinned at me.

"Well, it sounds like you've found someone who makes you happy, Elizabeth. We couldn't be happier for you."

Tears welled in my eyes again, but they were tears of relief and joy.

They had bought the story and believed this pregnancy was intentionally planned with my soon-to-be FAKE fiancé. I quietly let out a breath.

"Thank you, Dad. Your support means everything to me."

But who was I kidding?

Getting engaged to Alexander?

I didn’t know where that had come from.

I didn’t mean to lie to my parents.

They were the most supportive people I know.

But I know how disappointed they’d be if they found out that I’d gotten knocked up by accident… And I didn’t have any plans to marry the father of my baby.
