I turned to look at her, her words resonating deep within me.

"Do you think I can trust Alexander, Mom?"

She met my gaze with unwavering confidence.

"Only you can know that, Elizabeth. Trust is the foundation of any relationship. If you trust him, and he trusts you, then there's nothing to fear. Love and trust can conquer anything."

It’s as though my mother's wisdom had cast a soothing light on my fears.

"Thank you, Mom. He's been nothing but supportive throughout all of this, and I… I do trust him," I sighed, feeling like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

My mother smiled, her eyes filled with pride and love.

"Then there's nothing to be scared of, my dear. You and Alexander will face this journey together like your father and I did."

As I sipped from my mug, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. My mother's words reassured me, and I knew I had a robust support system to rely on when needed.

She leaned in closer, her voice gentle.

"You are strong and capable. Your father and I love you, and Alexander loves you. And soon, you'll have a beautiful baby to love and cherish."

Tears of gratitude filled my eyes as I hugged my mother tightly.

"Thank you, Mom. I don't know what I‘d do without you."

She hugged me back, her embrace warm and comforting.

"We're here for you every step of the way."

As we finished drinking, we shared a quiet moment of connection and understanding that would stay with me throughout this journey. With my mother's guidance and support, I knew I could face the challenges and uncertainties of motherhood with confidence and love.

Chapter Twenty

Alexander

Iwoke up to my phone buzzing on the nightstand. I groggily reached for it and squinted at the bright screen. It was still early morning, and I wasn't accustomed to being awake at this hour.

The message was from Elizabeth, and my heart skipped a beat as I read her words.

Elizabeth Parker

Alexander, I need you. Can you meet me at my parents' house in New Jersey? My mom figured out that I was pregnant, and then I don’t know why, but I told them we were planning an engagement party in two weeks. They want to see you before the party. I don’t know why I lied. I was tring to make them feel better. Then I couldn’t stop. I’m so sorry! I need you! I’m freaking out!!

My sleepy haze instantly vanished, replaced by a rush of concern and excitement.

What?

An engagement party?

I quickly typed out a response.

Don't worry. We’ll figure it out. Everything will be fine. I'll head to New Jersey tonight.

With that message sent, I couldn't help but smile despite the early hour.

This was a big step for us, and I was eager to meet Elizabeth's parents and make a good impression. I knew it wasn’t pre-planned, but I was excited anyway. I called David to make plans for the evening.

"Good morning, Mr. Hartman," David promptly answered.
