Chapter Thirty

Ella

“Zoeisintomenages,”Rhia continues.

“I know. She hooked up with Tiero’s brother and his friend, remember? Can something like that work long-term though?”

“It could, if all three parties are on board with it.”

“Shame that can’t happen for me.” It would make my life so much easier… and so much hotter.

I fan myself just imagining being in bed with both the men who set my body on fire.

“Why not?” Rhia asks, genuinely curious.

“Tiero would never share. He’s so goddamn possessive. Remember when I told you about that guy in the nightclub who touched my arm? Tiero completely lost it.”

Poor blondie. While I thought he was an arrogant ass, he didn’t deserve to be beaten up.

“And Aiden hates Tiero and everything he stands for. When I told him about Tiero being the third part of our soul, he snapped and chopped wood for an hour just to let out his rage. He even said he doesn’t want to reunite his part of our soul with Tiero’s, that knowing he’ll meet me again in another life is enough for him.”

“Aww. He’s a much better fit for you than Tiero.”

“I know. We have so much in common and share the same values. It’s so easy to be with Aiden. And he dotes on me. Though Tiero did that too.”

Rhia lets out a humorless chuckle. “Gualtiero De Marco had his own brand of doting. All the danger he put you in—”

“But we had great chemistry,” I tease her with the words she used to convince me to have a fling with him.

“Yeah yeah. And you know how guilty I’ve felt for pushing you into that relationship. Mind you, after what you told me, it sounds like it was always going to happen. So maybe I didn’t cause all this mess, but was more of a catalyst.”

“I told you it wasn’t your fault. You should listen to me!” I say, exasperated. “Besides, you were right. If I hadn’t explored things with Tiero, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life.

“As you said, in hindsight, there was no escaping this. Tiero would have always pursued me, and one way or another I would have always met Aiden.” I let out a long, deep-rooted sigh.

“I just wish I knew how this story ends,” Rhia says, leaning her head back, staring at the ceiling.

“Me too.” I rest my head on her shoulder.

“It’s not as clear cut as it appears, Rhi,” I whisper. “Aiden is perfect for me, and I can’t deny I’ve fallen for him. He’s so wonderful. And that kiss today? It had my toes curling. If that was a prelude of what’s to come, then holy shit!”

“But…” Rhia prompts.

“But… I still love Tiero. Deeply. I don’t want to, but I do. And I’m carrying his baby.

“While Aiden tells me he’s happy to raise her as his own, there’s a niggling part of me wondering if I’m doing the right thing keeping Tiero away from his child? Doesn’t my daughter deserve a chance to grow up with her real father?”

Rhia puffs air into her cheeks. “There isn’t a straightforward answer, is there? Tiero being a Mafioso complicates things exponentially. Your baby deserves better than being inculcated into a life of violence and greed. She’d be in constant danger.”

“Exactly. But what if Tiero ever finds out? What do I do then? He might kill me on the spot and then take our child back to Sicily.”

My words send visible shudders running through Rhia.

“He could never kill you. He loves you. Of that I’m certain.”

Just that she doesn’t sound convinced at all.

“It’s such a clusterfuck. All of it,” I say, defeated.
