“If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a process over many lifetimes.”

“Why?” I ask, getting up to pace the room. “If our soul split in one lifetime, why can’t it reunite in one?”

Claudette chuckles at my impatience. “Like anything in life, breaking things takes almost no effort at all, but putting them back together does.

“Take the heart paperweight you broke, for example. From the moment you accidentally brushed it to the moment it hit the floor—it only took seconds. But how long did you spend gluing it all back together? Not to mention the time it took you to find the glue on the ship and a calm frame of mind to do it.”

“Hmm,” I hum, a little disappointed by her explanation. “I can see your point.”

“There’s no rush. You have all of eternity. A new adventure awaits you in each life. And with each cycle, you get a little closer.

“The makeup of your relationships will change. You might find yourself related to one another in one life and mortal enemies in another.

“One thing is guaranteed though, youwillalways find each other.”

Aiden gets up from the floor and sits on the sofa, his hands steepled beneath his chin. He’s staring off into nothingness, his expression pensive.

“I’m not sure I want our souls to reunite,” he says, shocking both Claudette and I.

We turn to him, and I’m certain my confusion is written all over my face.

“At least for right now, I don’t want anything to do with the likes of Gualtiero De Marco.

“To be honest, if I’m guaranteed to find Ella again in another life and feel about her the way I do now… so all-encompassing, when a single look at her makes me fulfilled and happy to my core… I’ll take that anytime over a re-merged soul.”

I blink a few times. Tears suddenly threaten to break through. It’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever said.

Wordlessly, I walk toward the man who’s part of my soul and, sitting down next to him, thread my arms around him, pulling him close and breathing him in.

His hands come around me, and he kisses the top of my head tenderly.

He tells me I feel like home. Well, so does he.

Ade’s words resonate somewhere deep inside of me. If I get to meet him and Tiero again and again, that doesn’t sound so bad, and perhaps the circumstances will be easier next time.

Or harder, the little voice in the back of my mind chimes in.

“What about Rajendra’s wife? If they loved each other so much, does she reincarnate with us too?”

“Birds of a feather flock together. You tend to hang around with the same souls life after life. Rajendra’s wife’s soul is around now. And while back in that life in India, you shared great love, it’s not your current mission to continue on where you left off.

“As I said before, your soul’s primary drive is to find the two missing parts and ultimately merge again. Until that happens, she’s not going to ignite those same feelings. She’s not ready for that anyway. She’s still dealing with the fallout from that lifetime.”

“What do you mean?” Ade asks.

“She longs to be close to you guys, but she’s also afraid to get too close. After all, that didn’t end so well for her.”

My mind is going into overdrive, trying to work out who my wife was back in Rajendra’s time.

My wife… ha, that sounds funny.

Before I can go further down that line of thinking, the dinner gong sounds from the main house.

“Good,” Claudette remarks. “This reminiscing has made me hungry.”

Reminiscing?

Wait a second. “You were around too in Rajendra’s time, weren’t you?” I call out to her.
