So, like every morning over the past few days, I’ve made her ginger lemon tea and sweet potato mash. While she eats, I keep her company until Claudette arrives with my breakfast. It’s become our new routine. It’s comforting like an embrace that lingers in the air.

We make our way down the mountain, following the now familiar trail. We have ascended and descended these slopes countless times, every twist and turn is etched into our memories.

The sky is a brilliant blue above us, but there’s definitely something in the air, signaling change is about to happen.

I let Ella walk ahead so I can make sure she’s okay.

Fine, that’s not the whole truth. I also like watching her delicious ass.

When we get to the bottom, we check on the RV. It’s exactly as we left it.

Ian had said it’s safe to leave it here, and now that the weather turned cold, more so than ever. Despite its stunning beauty, no one seems to venture to this lake.

Phil, the owner of the bakery and café in the village, told me the number of visitors has drastically reduced. It’s not expected to change until a good amount of snow has landed, attracting the cross-country and backcountry skiers.

I sling the backpack from my shoulder and dig out a bottle of water for Ella. Handing it to her, our fingers brush.

I’m not sure what comes over me. Perhaps it’s the fun start to our morning and her sitting in front of this stunning backdrop now.

My heart is overflowing with love for this woman.

I bring the back of her other hand to my lips and press a soft kiss to her knuckles.

Butterflies take off in my stomach. I’ve gotten used to them since meeting Ella. At times, I even welcome them.

Heat rushes to her cheeks as my thumbs rub over her skin. It’s so damn soft.

Her body is reacting to my touch, a shiver running through her and her breathing turning shallow.

The energy between us changes in a nano-second. It’s becoming charged, sizzling with the potential of what could be.

Uncertain, Ella peeks up at me, and I swallow hard, the bobbing of my Adam’s apple almost painful.

Then her gaze drops to my lips.

Yes!

Come on, lucida, just come a little closer.

My jaw ticks in anticipation. The tension between us is so palpable I can taste it. It’s thick on my tongue, and all I want to do is lean in and press my mouth to hers.

I want to give in to my desire, but this is her move.

She leans in and my heart stops.

I want to close the distance, the last few inches between our lips, grab her hair and angle her to plunder her mouth. Holding back takes a mammoth effort.

But her stubborn resistance melts away with each shaky in-breath.

This is going to happen.

The butterflies in my stomach now twirl and somersault. It must be mating season for them too.

Still, she doesn’t move, her eyes flittering between mine, before falling down to my lips and back up, searching for something.

With my eyes, I tell her yes.

Yes, yes, yes.
