I drop the cloth on the counter. “Are you and Shane my angel investors?”

His answer is written all over his face and he takes another step toward the counter. I step back and cross my arms and he stops his approach.

“Willow—”

“It’s a simple question. Are you my angel investors?”

Tilting his head, he nods once and opens his mouth to explain.

I cut him off.

“Did you set Dale up with a woman from your club?”

“Shit, Willow. Let me get Shane. We can explain.”

I’m already holding my hand up and shaking my head. I don’t want both of them surrounding me like before. I don’t trust myself around them right now, and I can’t allow myself to be taken advantage of again.

Annie’s life is on the line.

“No, Alex. I think you should leave. I know I owe you money, but you need to leave right now.”

“Please—just—” He tries to take a step into my line of sight.

I drop my gaze away from him. I can’t look him in the eye. My heart is breaking and I’m not prepared to handle this.

Glancing at the floor, I yell, “I SAID GET OUT! NOW!”

ALEX

I burst through the front doors of our club and everyone jumps out of my way as I run, full speed, to our offices in the back.

Slamming the door open, I’m half-surprised it doesn’t bust off its hinges. Shane stands, his expression, one of shock when he sees me breathing like I just ran a marathon.

That’s what I get for leaving my car at the office and deciding to take a leisurely walk over to Willow’s coffee shop tonight.

I gave up trying to call Shane after he didn’t pick up my first three calls.

“Alex, what the f—”

“It’s Willow.” I drop my palms to my knees, wheezing into the room. “Something happened, Shane. When I got there, she—she knows.”

Shane rounds his desk, taking three steps toward me to help me into a chair and I push him off.

“She knows what? Alex, you aren’t making any sense.”

“She knows we’re her angel investors.” I get my words out between deep breaths.

“Shit.” He drags his hands over his face. “How did she find out?”

“I don’t know, but that isn’t all.” I know this next piece is going to set Shane off and I don’t want to say it, but he’s going to find out. “She knows we set her up to find Dale in bed with a woman.”

The color drains from his face and he moves back to his desk, lifting a notepad from beside his phone.

“Just a minute.”

Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he scrolls down his screen then taps the face a few times before returning it to his desk.

“What are you doing?” I take a seat at the table Willow sat at on Friday night.
