I don’t need to say anything else.

There’s no shortage of loose ends in our line of work, and Tray has been with me long enough to know how I handle them.

When the SUV turns the corner, I spin on my heels and take the alleys back to my car, tapping my jacket to check on my gun once more.

Dale lived like a leech this past year. Taking everything Candi was working toward and using her to gain access to the three of us.

When we first found out Dale had weaseled his way into Willow’s life, I was furious.

Anyone who has been in our shoes can see trash coming from a mile away. But Willow isn’t just anyone. She has a heart of gold and she always saw the good in everyone, even if that good was fabricated.

The first time he came around our club checking out our girls, I knew he was a loser. Then when I overheard him talking about the hot number at the coffee shop, I looked into him, and sure enough, he had already moved in with Willow.

He was the kind of guy who threw money at the girls, but had no known job. It wasn’t his money he was using to try to buy sex.

My first instinct was to kill him. Guys like him never go away, not when they have the scent of someone they can victimize.

I love Willow’s heart, but when a shark is swimming nearby, her kindness becomes a weakness, and he preyed on her.

And we let him.

Guilt gnaws at my heart.

By the time I arrive at Alex’s place, I have a few plans taking shape in my mind.

I use his spare key to let myself in and walk quietly across the room. The sun will be up in a couple of hours and I want nothing more than to shower the stink of that neighborhood off of me and climb into bed beside my girl.

It looks like they fell asleep where they landed tonight. Alex is sleeping, propped in a reclined position against the headboard and Willow is in his arms, her head on his chest.

He looks happier than I’ve ever seen him.

The shower can wait.

Peeling off my shirt and jeans, I slide into the King-sized bed on Willow's other side and lift her off of Alex, waking him up.

She murmurs in her sleep as she curls herself into my body, and I lay my head on the pillow as Alex stretches his neck and slides further under the covers to lie flat.

“Everything okay?” Alex whispers from the other side of our sleeping beauty.

“We’ll talk in the morning.”

There’s no point in stressing anyone else out tonight when Willow is safe in our bed.

Besides, the sooner I fall asleep, the sooner I get to wake up and I have some dark plans for my weeping Willow in the morning.

WILLOW

I’ve become a light sleeper.

Ever since Annie went into the hospital for overnight stays and I had to spend some nights away from her, my paranoia that I would miss an important call would keep me alert at all times.

So it was surprising when I woke up in Shane’s arms this morning knowing I fell asleep in Alex’s last night.

The events of the last few days have pushed me and I must have fallen asleep out of sheer exhaustion.

The sound of running water is the first thing that catches my attention and I look over my shoulder where Alex should be.

“He’s taking a shower.” Craning my neck in the direction of the voice, Shane smiles down at me, and brushes my bed head hair out of my face. “Good morning, Kitten. Where did this come from?” He tugs at my shirt.
