Shaking my head, I chuckled. “I haven’t danced in years.”

Lincoln grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the dance floor, obviously not taking no for an answer. “Well, I think it’s about time for that to change.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. We were both stubborn as all hell, but I wasn’t going to fight him. I didn’t want to.

Lincoln pulled me close, pressing our joined hands on his chest over his heart, and wrapping his other around my waist. We swayed to the music as he asked, “Remember our first prom?”

I smiled at the memory. That was the night we’d lost our virginity. “How could I forget?”

Lincoln squeezed my hand. “I was so nervous that night.”

I pulled back, glancing up at him and arching a brow. “You? What about me? I felt like I had a permanent flush on my face that night.”

He chuckled. “You did, but it made you look even more beautiful. You were the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen that night.”

My stomach knotted. “You didn’t look so bad yourself.”

Lincoln grinned. “I couldn’t stop sweating. I was worried you were going to smell my B.O. and run for the hills.”

I giggled. “From what I remember, you smelled great.”

We both laughed. That night had been absolutely perfect. Lincoln took me out to a fancy dinner a few towns over. After that, we’d met up with our friends at prom and danced the night away. Right before the last song, Lincoln and I had snuck away, and he drove me to the beach and made love to me under the stars.

I’d give anything to go back to that night and live in that moment again. To feel Lincoln’s love envelop me as we gave ourselves to each other; mind, body, and soul.

Our laughter subsided, and I stared into Lincoln’s eyes. To me, they were home, and I wanted to lose myself in them, in him, like I used to.

Lincoln’s eyes darted from my eyes to my mouth, then back again. He leaned forward, and I closed my eyes in anticipation, tipping my chin upward.

His lips met my forehead instead, pressing a soft kiss that made my chest tighten. He pulled me closer, resting his chin on my head as a comfortable calm settled over us. I closed my eyes, reveling in the feel his embrace.

When the song ended, neither of us moved to pull away. More people filled the dance floor as a faster-paced pop song came over the speakers.

Lincoln softly rubbed my back, still holding me close. “You ready to get out of here?”

I nodded even though I wanted to stay in his arms. He had me flushed from my head to my toes, and I needed some air.

We broke apart, and Lincoln ushered me outside, then down the stairs. The sea breeze cooled my skin and calmed my frantic thoughts but did nothing to help the heat in my lower abdomen.

My sex life, or lack thereof, had never been a priority for me. I had a vibrator if I needed it, but there hadn’t been anyone to make me crazy with want. But with Lincoln around, I was hyper aware of how long my dry spell was. And it was getting harder to ignore.

Even when we were out of the crowd, Lincoln kept his hand on the small of my back, guiding me to his truck. He helped me in, then went around to hop up in the driver’s side.

“I’m not ready to go home yet,” I said as he started the truck.

Lincoln gave me a mischievous grin as he cocked a brow. “Who said anything about going home? Baby, we’re just getting started.”

We stopped at a convenience store to get some beer before heading to a small lagoon just outside of town. Lincoln spread a blanket out in the bed of his truck, popped open two beers, then sat next to me on the tailgate. Our legs dangled over the edge as he handed me one of the beers.

I sighed after taking a swig. “I’ve missed this. I can’t remember the last time I had a beer in the bed of a truck.”

Lincoln chuckled. “Hopefully, it was in this truck.”

I playfully tapped my chin, acting like I couldn’t remember. “I’m not really sure. I think there was one other ti—”

I was cut off by Lincoln tickling me. I squealed with laughter, trying not to spill my beer as I squirmed under his touch. “Okay, okay, stop! Of course, it was in this truck.”

Lincoln stopped his assault, a pleased grin on his face. “Better be. I wouldn’t want to go knocking out all the headlights of the trucks around here.”
