“Well, that’s what we’re here for,” Emily said. “To help you.”

“What do you want it to look like?” I asked.

She grabbed one of the books and opened it up to a page with a picture of a snowy mountain slope with a snow leopard on a rocky ledge. “Like this.”

“I’m sure we can do that.” I grabbed her notebook and flipped to a clean page. “Let’s make a list of what we need.”

After compiling a list of what we needed for Piper’s diorama, we all went to the store and got the supplies, then returned to the library to finish the project.

Emily and I helped Piper put the diorama together, cutting, gluing, and painting as she directed. Lincoln and Tim provided moral support and encouragement as us women worked.

Piper was very detailed and thorough, a perfectionist just like I was when I was younger. She had to put the finishing touch on everything Emily and I did, making sure it was just the way she wanted.

Once we finished, she held up her diorama for Tim and Lincoln to see.

“That’s awesome, Piper. It looks just like the picture,” Lincoln marveled. His pride was apparent as he smiled at our daughter with awe.

“Yeah, sweetheart, it looks great,” Tim agreed.

She smiled proudly. “We even put some real grass for the grass and shrubs on the mountain slope. And then we put cotton balls and glitter for the snow.”

“Very creative,” Lincoln commented.

Piper set her diorama down, then hugged me. “Thank you for helping me, Miss Liv.”

I wrapped my arms around her. “No problem, sweetie.”

We returned the books and helped Piper pack up her supplies before we all exited the library. As we headed into the parking lot, Emily asked, “Would you like to come to Piper’s dance recital next week? For our weekly get-together.”

Lincoln and I looked at each other and smiled. “We’d love to.”

“Do you have everything you need?” I asked as I hefted Liv’s travel bag into my truck.

“I think so. If not, we can always come back.”

My parents had left to go out of town for their anniversary, so Liv was staying with me at the farm. That Sunday, Tim and Emily were planning to bring Piper over for dinner so Liv could make the lasagna she’d promised Piper a few weeks before.

“What’s the plan for this weekend?” Liv asked as we drove toward my house.

I had a lot planned for her, including recreating some sleepless nights from high school when she’d snuck into my room. “I thought we could catch a movie, then hit that bar in Morehead City.”

She smiled. “That sounds perfect.”

We’d been meeting up with the Andrews every week for a little over a month. Piper was out of school for the summer, and things were going great with Liv and me.

And I couldn’t be happier.

Liv and I dropped her stuff off at my place, then went to see the latest big release at the movies.

As we were watching the previews in the dimly lit theater, I leaned over and whispered in Liv’s ear, “Remember when we used to come here for date night?”

She giggled softly. “Yeah. Half the time we didn’t even watch the movie.”

I chuckled as memories replayed in my head. “We were too busy making out to pay attention.”

“I can’t believe we never got kicked out,” Liv commented as she grabbed a handful of popcorn.
