My brows knitted together. “Me?” I scoffed. “You know I don’t like heights.”

Lincoln smacked his tongue. “Aw, come on, Liv. It’s not that high.”

I gazed up at the ride, which was spinning around at the top. Just watching it made my stomach clench. “Uh, no thank you.”

Lincoln chuckled, looking down at Piper. “Guess it’s just you and me, kid.”

After a few minutes, we reached the front. Once they entered, Lincoln and Piper picked a glider together and got strapped in. I stepped off to the side and got my phone ready to record their ride together.

Once they started moving, I held my phone up and started recording. The smiles on their faces were priceless as they rose to the top and spun around.

My daredevils.

When they got off, Piper ran over to me with a huge grin on her face. “That was so fun!”

Lincoln walked up behind her. “Where to next?”

After riding a few more rides, we grabbed a funnel cake and nachos, then made our way to the games. Piper was immediately drawn to the fishbowl game. “Can I play?”

“Of course.” Lincoln pulled out some tickets and handed them to the attendant, who gave Piper a bucket of balls. “Good luck, kid.”

Piper handed me the bucket and took out a ball. She tossed it at the group of fish bowls, and it bounced out. Frowning, she tried several more times with the same result.

Lincoln chuckled, placing his hand on her shoulder. “Take your time, sweetheart. Aim the ball.”

Piper looked up at him, then back at the fish bowls. She held up the ball, focusing for a few seconds before tossing it.

We all watched with anticipation as the ball floated through the air … then landed in a bowl!

“Yes!” Lincoln and I both shouted as Piper jumped up and down, squealing with excitement. She high-fived us while the attendant got her prize and brought it over to her.

She took the fishbowl with both hands and grinned as she peered at the goldfish inside. “I’m going to name him Nemo.”

I smiled. “Perfect.”

We played a few more games before calling it a night. Piper had an armful of stuffed animals and a huge grin on her face as we left the carnival.

Lincoln carried Nemo as we walked back to the truck. “Did you have a good time, Piper?”

She squeezed the stuffed animals in her arms tighter. “The best. Thank you for bringing me.”

Seeing her so happy was worth every single penny and the long lines we waited in. “You’re very welcome.”

Piper fell asleep on the drive home. Her head rested on my shoulder, and I couldn’t help but smile as I nestled my head against hers.

When we got home, Lincoln carefully scooped Piper in his arms and carried her inside. I leaned against the doorframe as he tucked her into bed, my heart full of love at the sight of him and our daughter.

I wasn’t sure what my future held, but I knew as long as Lincoln and Piper were in it, it would be amazing.

The next morning, Lincoln and I woke up early and made breakfast for the three of us before we headed to the farm. Piper was thrilled to see Buttercup again and couldn’t wait to milk the cows and make ice cream.

As we pulled up to the house, my phone rang. My mom’s name and number displayed on the screen. Lincoln put the truck in park, and I answered the phone as we all got out, “Hello.”

“Hi, sweetheart. I just wanted to see how things were going.”

I watched Piper and Lincoln race across the yard to the barn. “Good. We’re having a great time so far.”

I’d told my mom a few days before that Piper was going to be staying for the weekend. We’d arranged for my mom to meet her Sunday after church when my father would be preoccupied.
