Brushing the hair out of her face, I gave her a quick kiss before I got out of bed to get her a towel. I cleaned her up then tossed the soiled towel on the floor.

Liv yawned as I pulled her to me. “That was incredible.”

“You’re incredible,” I murmured, kissing her forehead.

We slipped beneath the covers, pressing our naked bodies together. I was so happy at that moment, and the smile was still on my face as I drifted off to sleep.

Neither of us wanted to leave as we packed our bags on Sunday morning. We’d spent most of the day Saturday lounging at the mineral pool and jacuzzi, then had another amazing meal at the resort restaurant. After dinner, we spent the night making love again.

Liv sighed as she gave our room one last glance over her shoulder. “I’m gonna miss this place.”

I draped my arm around her. “Me too.”

She glanced up at me. “Thank you for the amazing weekend. Everything was perfect.”

I smiled down at her before leaning in and pressing a kiss to her lips. “You’re more than welcome. Anything to put a smile on that pretty face.”

We let the door close behind us as we walked down to the lobby to check out. I hoped I’d done enough to convince Liv to stay, and by the look of the happiness on her face, it was.

The Saturday after our fabulous, impromptu getaway was Piper’s tenth birthday party. Tim and Emily booked the milestone celebration at a small amusement park in Emerald Isle about forty minutes from Beaufort.

As Lincoln drove us to the party, we chatted about the past.

“Did you ever go to Emerald Isle as a kid?” I asked.

He nodded. “A few times. I can’t believe it’s been around this long.”

I chuckled. “Makes you feel old, doesn’t it?”

“Having a ten-year-old makes me feel old,” he joked.

“Tell me about it.”

Emerald Isle had go-karts, bumper cars, bounce houses, and other attractions. The place was perfect for a kid’s party, especially for the small towns that dotted the Crystal Coast.

We arrived early to help Tim and Emily set up. Lincoln’s parents and my mom were also coming as well as several of Piper’s friends from school and dance class.

Lincoln carried the presents we’d bought for Piper inside, and we found Tim, Emily, and Piper in one of the party rooms.

“Hey!” Emily greeted with a smile as she set out some plates. “So glad you could make it.”

I gave her a hug. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world; we’ve missed enough as it is.”

“How was your romantic getaway last weekend?” Emily asked, raising her eyebrows in intrigue.

My cheeks flushed slightly as I remembered all the naughty things Lincoln and I had done. The weekend was basically a fuck fest, and I loved every second of it. “Perfect. It was so relaxing and romantic.”

I helped Emily set out the unicorn-themed plates, tablecloths, napkins, and birthday hats as we chatted about the previous week. Once we finished, Emily led me to the cake table. “Wait until you see the cake; it came out perfect.”

She opened the cake box, and inside was a cake shaped like a unicorn’s head. Purple and teal icing formed the unicorn’s mane, and there was shimmering glitter sprinkled atop the cake. Several cupcakes with matching icing circled the base.

“Wow,” I marveled. “They did an amazing job.”

“Didn’t they? That unicorn horn is made of spun sugar, and all the glitter is completely edible.”

I smiled. “Piper’s going to love it.”
