We both listen close for a moment, and we can hear Elliot kicking things over and screaming obscenities to himself. It’s the most brutal, strange expression of anger I’ve ever heard, and it gives me the biggest high of my entire life.

“I’d really better get going now, or else I’m going to end up drinking myself into the toilet again,” I confess, still trying to find my footing as my head swims.

“I understand. I just couldn’t let you leave so soon before. I really enjoy you,” he says, adjusting my dress for me.

I’m sure he does.

But I can’t let that dictate how I feel about him.

Right?

“What are you going to do about Elliot, though? Can you promise not to hurt him?” I ask, still feeling mixed emotions about the whole ‘false imprisonment’ aspect of the night.

“Yeah, of course. I’ll do what I can, but I can’t promise that he won’t bring some shit on himself. If he does that, I’m going to act,” Akim replies firmly.

I sigh. “Okay, fine, butonlyif he deserves it,” I reply, smiling coyly as I smooth my hair back one last time before leaving the storage closet.

As I leave the club, I can see a small group of Elliot’s friends still sitting at the bar, and a few of them shout at me as I walk out.

Doesn’t matter. It was so worth it.

Akim

Even though I would love to just fuck Delilah for the rest of the night, another frequent flyer has landed himself in the club once again. I’m under the impression that I’ll be seeing Luka a hell of a lot more than I intend to until he gets something from me.

Anything. Even an empty promise.

“Hey, Akim!” Luka shouts the second I leave the storage closet. He must have seen us both go in there and was probably counting the minutes until we walked out.

Fucking freak.

“Luka, really, I’m not just here to party and have fun. I have business to conduct,” I say, waving him off.

“Oh, that’s business you were just doing with that girl in the closet? Damn, I thought you at least had your own office. That’s real dirty of you, man,” he says with a slimy smile.

As much as I hate him, he’s clocked me.

“Fine, what the fuck do you want?” I ask, exasperated.

“All I’m saying is that we could really make something happen between the two of us,” Luka insists as he leads me toward a secluded booth on the second floor of the club. There are a few girls up here, clearly brought by Luka to entice me into a meeting with him.

Since meeting the strange girl from last night, I’m hardly interested.

Luka’s girls snort a few lines of an unknown substance off the glass tabletop, and immediately they begin acting far more intoxicated than they are. They annoy me, and I order them to go downstairs or leave.

“Why are you harshing on the girls, man? They’re just trying to have some fun. I bought that blow from you, for fucksake,” Luka protests, pulling out another dimebag of white powder.

“They’re being annoying. Anyway, what the fuck do you want from me? I already told you I’m not interested in joining forces with you or whatever the hell it is you think we’re doing here,” I reply, annoyed and already anxious for this night to be over.

“Okay, okay, but you haven’t even heard what I have to say yet,” Luka pleads, gesturing for me to sit down and listen to him. I realize that every time I tell him to fuck off, he just comes back even more anxious to talk to me, so I hesitantly decide to join him.

“So, that girl I saw you bring into your office? That one that was literally just here? She looks exactly like my sister,” Luka begins, sitting across from me, his face stone-cold serious.

I wait for the follow-up. “Alright? What do you want me to say?” I ask, trying to get a feel for whatever weird shit he’s about to ask of me.

“She looks like my sister Madalene. She was separated from me when we were kids, and she was put up for adoption. I’ve been trying to find her for years, and I had some AI software draw a picture of what she would look like twenty years later. Akim, that girl looksexactlylike her,” he says.
