Then she squinted at me and tilted her head. “You know, you look somewhat familiar. In fact, now that I think about it, you are the spitting image of that woman who’s rumored to be Prince Oliver’s new girlfriend.”

I stammered. “I’m definitely not his girlfriend.”

That didn’t stop her from continuing the conversation.

“He’s so dreamy,” she said. “Imagine if you were his girlfriend.”

I’m trying to forget.

“They do make a cute couple, that’s for sure!” she added. “They looked like they were having so much fun on that log ride at Atomic Adventures. I’m sure more than a few people have told you that you look like her.”

I felt a flush of discomfort. “Not really.”

The employee laughed, brushing off her comment. “Well, you look like her. Can you imagine going out with Prince Oliver? Oh, my goodness.” She fanned her face. “Talk about a fantasy.”

I was eager to escape this conversation and the unsettling reminder of my own romantic disaster. All I wanted was to bid Verdana farewell and move on with my life.

I managed a weak smile, the awkwardness lingering. “Yeah, that’s a fantasy, all right. Anyway, thank you for your time.”

And please dial down your happiness a notch.

“You bet!” she said. “That’s what I’m here for!”

Back at my seat, I found a couple taking up not only my spot but the one beside it too. And, just my luck, they were deep into a full-blown make-out session. The airport lovebirds seemed completely unaware of my irritation. Their limbs were all intertwined, and they whispered sweet nothings as if they were the stars of their own romantic comedy, making my annoyance skyrocket.

It hit a little too close to home, reminding me of the times Oliver and I shared those same kinds of kisses. That’s when I heard a voice over the airport intercom system, and it sent a jolt through me.

“Attention! Your attention, please!” the man said. “Would Grace Fullerton please report to the Verdana Airlines VIP Lounge immediately.”

My eyes shot up to the ceiling in disbelief.

It was Oliver.

His voice echoed through the airport.

“Once again, Miss Grace Fullerton, please report to the Verdana Airlines VIP Lounge immediately to receive an apology, a confession, and your personalized gift.”

A hushed murmur around me suggested others recognized the voice too, speculating he was a movie star or someone famous.

Oliver’s voice continued, “Come on, Grace, don’t keep all these lovely people waiting. You deserve to know the truth.”

My shock deepened. Oliver was not just present in the airport, but he seemed to be orchestrating this flight delay. My mind raced with the possibilities of what he had planned as I contemplated the inconvenience this might cause hundreds of passengers.

“That’s Prince Oliver!” a woman said.

Someone also nearby said, “She’d better get over there now!”

“Get going, Grace!” another man called out.

Reality hit me with a mix of surprise and intrigue. I couldn’t just sit there and ignore what was going on. I tried my best to look casual as I made my way back up to the counter.

“There she is again!” the woman said.

“Could you please tell me where the Verdana Airlines VIP Lounge is?” I whispered.

The employee’s eyes went wide as she beamed proudly. “I had a feeling it was you! This is so exciting. Don’t keep the prince waiting!” She pointed past the burger cafe by the next gate. “Walk just past the restaurant, and it will be on your right. Look for the bright blue sign. Actually, forget that. I will personally take you there myself. Nobody will be allowed to board until Prince Oliver says so, anyway.” Before I could say a word, she came around the counter, grabbed me by the hand, and pulled me toward the lounge. “This is so exciting! Love is in the air! I’m Freya, by the way. It is such an honor to meet you.”

“You, too. I’m Grace.”
