That was when I snort-laughed.

I looked like Dolly Parton, sans the big boobs.

A few minutes later, I emerged from the bathroom at the same time as Oliver. We froze when we saw each other, then both laughed hysterically.

Oliver was also wearing an aardvark T-shirt—his was blue. However, it was his wig that sent me over the edge, teased and tousled glam rock hair with cascading waves of layered locks that framed his face.

Aunt Honey grinned as we approached. “Oh. My. Word! Perfection!”

I continued to giggle at Oliver. “You look like Jon Bon Jovi from the eighties! Are you going to sing a song for us?”

“Not unless you want your ears to bleed.” Oliver chuckled, looking a bit embarrassed. “Aunt Honey, I appreciate the effort, but you might’ve gone a bit overboard with this outfit.”

“Not at all,” I said, admiring him and nodding my head. “You look kind of sexy, actually.”

Renzo and Enzo stared at me, both looking surprised.

Okay, I might have spoken a bit too candidly. After all, he was still the Prince of Verdana underneath that disguise.

“I’ll just shut up now,” I said, laughing nervously. “My mouth is going to get me into even bigger trouble.”

Enzo broke the silence. “It’s healthy to express your emotions, Grace.” He then turned to Aunt Honey, a swoon-worthy expression on his face. “When you are near, it’s like my heart is dancing to a melody only it can hear.”

Aunt Honey fanned her face. “Sweetie—you keep talkin’ like that and my teeth are gonna fall out from all the cavities.”

We settled in, devouring burgers and fries, sipping shakes, and enjoying the casual atmosphere as Oliver and I occasionally exchanged glances. The laughter and banter continued until appetites were satisfied. Then Aunt Honey reminded us of the plan to visit the tarot card reader.

And just like that, we were back in the amusement park, off to our next adventure.

Mr. Stoic stood outside on watch as our party of five squeezed into the tarot card reader’s booth. Her cozy space enveloped us in a kaleidoscope of rich, mystical colors, deep purples, velvety reds, and the shades of midnight blue. The thick tapestry behind the table depicted a star-studded night sky with a crescent moon, adding to the enchantment. The air was a mix of incense, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere, illuminated by the soft glow of candles.

Draped in flowing garments, the woman welcomed us with a mysterious smile. “My name is Celestia. Welcome to my world. I hope this will be your lucky day. Who would like to go first?”

Aunt Honey pointed at Oliver. “Why don’t you go first, Mr. Bon Jovi?”

Oliver chuckled, a hint of skepticism in his eyes. “I’ll pass, Aunt Honey. Let’s let someone else have their fortune told.”

“No, no, no.” Celestia wagged her finger at him, oblivious to the royal presence in her midst. “Not fortune. I’m giving you psychic guidance.”

Oliver nodded. “That’s still a big no from me.”

Renzo and Enzo both declined to take part as well, both preferring to continue conquering the rollercoasters in the amusement park.

That only left me and Aunt Honey.

She turned to me next with a gleam in her eye. “Grace, darlin’, why don’t you give it a whirl? It’s all in good fun.”

Celestia wagged her finger again. “Not in good fun. What I tell you is written in stone. It will happen, trust me. These cards represent significant life events, spiritual lessons, and major influences. I will reveal the powerful forces at play and the key moments on your journey. The question is, do you dare find out the truth?”

“Do you dare?” Oliver asked me, wiggling his eyebrows under his oversized wig.

I hesitated, my practical side reminding me that tarot cards couldn’t predict the future. But the allure of fun and mystery, especially considering my career change contemplations, won me over. Perhaps Celestia would even drop a hint about love.

“All right,” I said, finally succumbing.

Taking a seat in front of the table, I braced for Celestia’s dramatic ritual. She shuffled the cards and placed them on the table in front of me. She asked me to cut the deck, then turn over the top card.

Celestia’s eyes widened ever so slightly. “Ah, my dear, the card of deceit. A shadow is lurking in the moonlit corridors of your fate.” Her voice intensified. “There is a whisper of drama ahead, a dance with chaos that might test your mettle. Lies have been told. A powerful figure will try to ruin you. Be strong, child.”
