“Okay, we definitely need a taxi,” Ed said. He had one arm wrapped around Mackenzie and the other around me, helping to hold us up.

She giggled breathlessly, and I shrugged. “Yeah, we probably didn’t need those last two long islands.”

“Or the last shot of gin,” Mackenzie agreed.

“You don’t say,” he said. “I’m calling a taxi.”

Ed let go of me to grab his phone from his pocket. I shook my head, racing him to get mine out and unlocked first. “I’ll just call Dallas! If he can’t come get us, he’ll send a car.” Wouldn’t he?

I clicked on his name, waiting while the phone rang. When it clicked, disappointment caused my stomach to sink. “You’ve reached Dallas. Leave a message, and I’ll get back to you.”

I hung up the phone. Swallowing the temporary embarrassment, I hit his name again.

“You’ve reached Dallas—”

I grumbled, hanging up. “Okay, so he didn’t answer. Let me text him.”

Ed and Mackenzie shared a look that lacked surprise, and my hands shook when I opened up a blank message. Before I could send it, Mackenzie had her phone to her ear. “I’m just going to call Brys. He’ll come get us!”

Before I could remind her he was at his own party, he must have answered because her face lit up in temporary shock that turned into excitement. “Hi, babe!” she squealed before she broke into a fit of giggles. I could hear his mumbled response on the other line. “I was just calling to say hi. Okay, yeah. We’re just maybe a little kind of drunk. Can you come get us?”

Bryson said something else before Mackenzie hung up. It was almost in her pocket before she gasped. “Oh, I love you too.” She giggled and winced. “Oh well. He knows that already.” She wiggled the finger with her ring on it.

“You’re ridiculous,” I told her, tucking my phone away.

We were only waiting for a few minutes before a black Escalade pulled up to the curb and Bryson climbed out of the passenger side door. When the driver’s side door opened and Drake climbed out, I groaned. We should’ve just called a taxi.

“Hey, angel cakes,” he said with a smirk.

I dropped my head back, whining. “Seriously?”

“What were you expecting to happen when you called the man at his bachelor party to come get you?” Drake smirked, shrugging and rounding the car. He leaned against the side, rolling his eyes at Mackenzie wrapped around Bryson.

“I didn’t call him.” I was too drunk to deal with his sarcasm, and I pointed to my best friend as if it were obvious the call hadn’t come from me.

“Either way, we’re here. Lucky you.” He gave me a brief once-over before he turned away from me with his hand extended. “Ed, right? I’m Drake.”

“Nice to meet you,” Ed said, giving his hand a rough shake while he looked between us.

“Same to you.”

I grumbled, rolling my eyes. Why was he so frustrating to me? He wasn’t doing anything wrong. I took a deep breath, sighing. Drake looked at me. “Alright, lovebirds. Get in the car,” he said, nudging Bryson before opening the front door.

“Fuck off, Drake,” Mackenzie said, earning a chortle from Bryson. “No wonder Amanda hates you so much.”

Drake looked at me, and I cringed. “Thanks, Mack,” I said, climbing into the front seat. He shut the door behind me, and when it slammed, I jumped. He got in the car, starting it and turning the music down before he pulled away from the curb.

“Can you guys save it until you get home? Come on, I’m wedged in here!” Ed whined when Mackenzie started to kiss Bryson again. They didn’t listen, and he groaned, trying to make himself smaller in the backseat.

I giggled in the front, drawing the attention from the broody man in the driver’s seat. “They’re definitely not going to stop,” I said, the last word breaking on a laugh.

“Not even kind of,” Mackenzie agreed.

Drake turned the music up to drown out the sound of lips smacking in the backseat and Ed’s mumbled complaints. “So you hate me, huh?” he finally asked. I looked at him as if to make sure I had heard him correctly. His eyes were peeled on me.

“I… no? I don’t know. You’re frustrating.” Did I hate him?

He looked proud of himself after hearing me stumble over my answer. “Am I frustrating?”
