I took a deep breath, breathing in the scent of sweat, our arousal, and his cologne—the sandalwood and warm vanilla smell I suddenly wanted to wrap myself in. It was a smell I could get used to, better than any sage or candle I’d ever burnt. I giggled, remembering his outburst when he’d walked in earlier.

“What’s so funny?” he asked. His voice was lazy and content, but he didn’t loosen his tight hold on me.

I chewed on the corner of my lip for a second. “So are we a thing now?” I asked, deciding against bringing up the sage I wasn’t sure I’d ever need to burn again with him around.

Drake kissed the back of my head, letting his lips linger while he took a deep breath. “No angel, we’re everything.”

Chapter thirty-one

Drake

“Well, congratulations, gentlemen. We have a building under contract.” Amanda clapped excitedly to herself, sitting up in her chair.

Giacomo and Ronan grinned at her from their seats across the table. “I think this building may work out better than the last one anyway,” Ronan said with a chuckle.

“That’s good, considering the last building is as good as sold.” I laughed, standing up and shaking Ronan’s hand. Next to me, Amanda scowled, still sensitive about the first offer she made.

Even frustrated, she couldn’t hold back the smile that tugged at her cheeks. Her eyes lit up when the grin won, and I swore the room froze in time. She was intoxicating, and I wasn’t the only one that noticed.

She uncrossed her legs, revealing a glimpse of her milky thigh peeking from under the tight red dress she wore. The only thing keeping me from my urge to bite the exposed soft spot was the three other men in the room that would hear her gasp.

Amanda stood up. “I apologize the original building fell through, but I am confident that this option fits more of your needs.” The confidence she felt closing the deal was apparent in her tone. I want to be fierce.

“I agree,” Giacomo said, quickly joining us on his feet and fixing his suit. “In fact, we’re going to need three more in the area, for now. And we’re just getting started. Are you up for the challenge, Ms. Hutchins? We’d like to continue working with you and your partner here.”

The excitement buzzed off of her like static electricity, and I couldn’t bite back my own smile. “I look forward to it.” Amanda thrust her hand out to take his.

“We look forward to it as well. Shall we?” He turned to his brother, gesturing towards the door to the conference room. “I’ll be in touch.”

Once the door had clicked shut behind them, Amanda jumped up and down. “Can you believe it?” she said, throwing her arms around me and ignoring Phil standing there.

I shrugged. “Of course I can believe it. I said from the beginning you’d be amazing.”

“Let’s be honest,” Phil chimed in, choosing that moment to remind us he was there, “you’re going to be better than Drake is.” He laughed, clapping me on the back.

Amanda pulled her arms from my shoulders, sheepishly clasping her hands in front of her. A deep blush formed on her cheeks and neck, and she looked down.

“She’s already better than me,” I said, causing her head to snap back up.

“There’s no way I’m better than you,” she said defensively. Then she smirked at me, cocking her head. “Yet.” Her laugh burst from her, echoing through the room loudly enough that I was sure the offices around the conference room could hear her too.

I narrowed my eyes, stifling the laugh that bubbled in my chest. “We make a good team.” When I winked at her, she scrunched her nose. The fact Phil was still in the room with us was the only reason I didn’t bend her over the table to hear her fall apart again.

“That you do,” he said, putting a hand on both of our shoulders.

We both turned and looked at him, keeping our heads still while he nodded continuously. He stayed like that for a moment until the awkward tension in the room grew unbearable. He coughed to clear his throat, taking his hands from our shoulders and clapping once before shoving them in his pocket.

“Anywho,” he said, stepping back, “I’ve got a call or meeting or something I should probably—” He pointed at the door behind him before he reached for the knob to open it, letting himself out.

As soon as the door was closed behind him, the room grew still. Amanda stared at me, not even blinking until I winked again. “I’m proud of you, angel,” I said.

She shrugged one shoulder and blushed, her grin practically stretching off her face. “Thank you, handsome.”

I swallowed, willing myself to maintain my self-control when I put my hands on her hips. “Let me take you to dinner tonight.” I pulled her towards me.

“Can’t,” she said, stretching on her toes to press a quick kiss to my lips before she pulled back. “Mackenzie and Brys got back yesterday, and she is taking me out for a girl’s night.”

Amanda was so excited that I swallowed my disappointment. “Tomorrow night, then. I’m taking you to dinner.” I let go of her hips, missing the way they felt in my grasp.
