“I was getting jealous,” Chiara says, welcoming me inside. “What did Cameron do?”

“Was it that obvious?”

“Please. Have you seen a normal woman go mad without the help of a man? So, do you want to talk about it or do you want to see how your symbols turned out?”

“Definitely the jewelry.”

Celia rounds the corner. When she sees me, she runs straight to me and jumps into my arms. I follow Chiara downstairs. She shows me the collection and I am in awe.

“This is something I always wanted to bring out. Symbols and words are important. I want to empower women, let them know they can achieve anything like these trailblazing women did.”

I spend some time looking and touching every piece and playing with Celia. I hug them goodbye and amble toward the last house.

When Aurora sees me walking toward her, she smiles at me from the garden, where she’s tending plants.

“How’s the writing going?” I ask.

“I’m quite mad at my characters. They never listen. I’m just writing their daily report. I sound like I’m crazy, right? I am not; at least I hope I’m not. I even talk to them and argue. I definitely argue more with them than with my husband.”

Laughter bubbles out of me. I feel relieved and happy to have these women in my life.

“You’re not. I live mostly in a virtual world.”

“I really want to see you play.”

“Well, I am going to the world championships in three weeks.”

Her smile freezes on her face.

“What is it?”

“Nothing. I’m sure they will have everything under control by then, and no one knows who you are. Sorry, I can’t stop thinking about safety. My husband has rubbed off on me.”

Aiden crawls past us and pulls himself up on the bench. He grins.

“He’s sweet,” I say.

She looks adoringly at him. He’s like her husband’s mini-me.

“You see that too, huh?” she says, noticing my reaction.

“Were you even there?”

She bends over in laughter and shoves me playfully in the arm. “Oh, I was there.”

When I imagine having sex with Cameron, my body temperature rises to scorching hot. I spend some more time with them and leave with a grin on my face.

Feeling lighter, I spend the rest of the day playing my best game in days.

Focusing on my senate campaign meetings and PowerPoint slides is difficult when all I can think about is the feel of Violet’s bare skin and her body molded to mine. Tonight, she will reveal even more to me. I get hard just thinking about it. I catch myself smiling like an idiot.

Wrapping things up, I get in my car and drive home. I need to see her, especially after last night and our awkward morning.

Marie greets me at the front door with a strange look on her face. I ask, “What is it?”

“She knows.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose, knowing exactly what she means. “How?”
