“What are we?”

She points between the two of us as if I’m slow to catch on.

“We just are,” I say.

“That says nothing.”

“That says everything. You’re here with me. You’re mine.”

She pushes the plate in front of her, tapping her lips. “Well, I am not yours.”

“Well, yes, wife. You most definitely are.”

“You’re insufferable.”

We’ll see about that when she finds out how hard I can make her come. Adjusting my pants, I clear my throat. I didn’t even know what desire was until I met her. I gesture for her to go on. Suddenly, her entire demeanor changes.

“I’m not your type. I can’t compete with someone who looks like her, who probably gave you the best sex of your life.”

“Violet, don’t do that. There’s no comparison.”

Hurt envelops her features. I regret giving her the impression she’s less when she’s everything.

But it’s true, Violet and Jenny are different women who can’t be and shouldn’t be compared. Violet is someone who sparks something in me I’ve never experienced before.

“Fuck you, you asshole!”

What the fuck? Her chair scrapes against the floor and falls backward as she stands up. She throws her damn plate at me. I duck and it crashes into the wall behind me.

“Are you crazy?”

She dashes from the dining room while I remain sitting in confusion.

Marie rushes inside, and she looks from me to the shattered plate.

“What did you do?” she asks.

“Nothing.”

“You must have really messed up to make her react like that.”

“I told her the truth.”

“I have never met someone so keen on self-sabotaging themselves. It’s as if you enjoy being miserable.”

Fuck this, I don’t have the time or the nerves for it. My phone keeps ringing. Kieran, Cato, and Hayden are all blowing up my phone. I ignore them and head to my office. Not even half an hour later, they crash into the room.

“I’m trying to work here.”

“And that half-empty bottle is helping?”

I stare Cato down. “As you can see. I’m alive. Go fuck your wives or something.”

“He’s just pissed he’s not getting any. I told you so,” he says, looking at both Kieran and Hayden.

I throw the bottle at his head and Cato catches it. He storms toward me, but Hayden gets in his face, stopping him.

Cato’s eyes gleam. “You want to fight? Let’s fucking go, asshole.”
