When I hang up, I look at my wife, struggling to keep her eyes open.

“Don’t close your eyes, love.”

“I love you.”

“Show me you love me by not dying on me.”

“So bossy.”

I would have found her reply amusing if I weren’t so torn and wrecked to pieces.

When the car is barely in park, I rush through the hospital doors. Alessandra halts and pales as she eyes Violet, and I know it’s bad.

Alessandra shouts directions at the staff, and I place Violet on a gurney. I bring my lips to her ear. “There is nothing for me in this world without you. And if you go, I’ll be right there behind you.”

Through blurry eyes, I see her teary ones. Two nurses roll her away, and I follow. “You can’t come inside,” one of them says.

I can’t let go, my hands gripping the gurney’s edge.

“I have her. I have her,” Alessandra says, taking my heart away.

One of my men runs up behind me. “We found the shooter.”

They have no fucking idea what they unleashed.

“How are the others?” I ask.

“Aurora, Chiara, and the kids are safe in the bunker. We found someone with a gun near the hospital. We got him too.”

Violet’s parents run toward me with accusation in their eyes and pure grief on their faces.

“This is because of you. If she survives...,” my father-in-law says in a guttural voice.

“She will survive.”

“You will stay away from her.”

“Ralph.” His wife tries to calm him.

I get in his face. “Nothing on this earth could keep me away from my wife.”

I walk away.

“Where are you going?” he asks.

“She’s safe here,” I say and leave the hospital, instructing my men to guard the floor. I speed toward the compound, ready to rip the world apart. No one will ever dare harm my wife again.

My team briefs me that some of the Brotherhood’s men died trying to breach our perimeter, but we live in an impenetrable fortress and informs me that Violet’s shooter is being held in the basement. I have plans for him later. The man who could shatter my world deserves for me to take my time delivering his punishment.

I look at the surveillance cameras.

“I want the location of every one of those motherfuckers. Right fucking now.”

I have this one night to eliminate all eight heads of the Brotherhood.

When I have their addresses, I pin each location on my map. It’s a two-thousand-mile radius, but I have a plane and I’m functioning on pure rage. I change into black camouflage, only to find Kieran, Cato, and Hayden staring at me incredulously.

“Why the fuck aren’t you at the hospital?” Kieran asks.
