“Marie.”
“No, you listen to me. Just be the boy I know is still inside of you.”
I don’t think I have ever been the boy she imagined I was.
Torn between my duty as Violet’s husband and this situation we’re both trapped in, I need some time to clear my head.
I grab my phone and my keys and go out. Hopping in the car, I speed to the compound. I expect to be alone to stew in my thoughts, but I find the guys also there.
“Shouldn’t you be home with your wives and kids?” I ask no one in particular.
“We wanted to see how you’re holding up first,” Hayden says.
“Fan-fucking-tastic.”
“Do you need us?” Cato asks.
“What do you think?”
“He has this,” Cato says. They exchange a look and then leave without another word.
When we said brothers over women, it was before they met their women. Assholes.
“That bad?” Kieran asks.
“That woman... I don’t even know where to start.”
“That would be a first.”
I shove my hands in my pockets. “She’s not like any other woman I’ve met. Did you know she’s a gamer?”
“She’s a phenomenon in the gaming community.”
I lean back on the wall, crossing my feet at my ankles. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because you never asked.”
A headache throbs between my temples. Rubbing the spot with two fingers, I groan. “Violet won’t be ready. Why would you do that to me, huh? I don’t need this bullshit.”
“Do you remember? I said something similar to you about Aurora.”
“You’ve always had a thing for my sister.”
He pins me with a severe stare. “Don’t make this sound weird.”
“You know what I mean.”
“You’re a saver, Cam.”
“Don’t go there.”
“Fuck you. Maybe you can let go of the past if you can save her from herself.”
“That would be a first.”
I push myself off the wall, anger flowing through my veins. He had to go there.
Back home, I park the car and slam the door when I find Alessandra walking toward me. She gestures for me to go to her.
