“But we both know you love my attention. Stop complaining because you asked for it.”

I have no time to filter his words through my brain when he slams his mouth down on mine, claiming all my senses. It’s sweet euphoria, pure oblivion. I moan as he devours me with unrestrained passion. He lights a fire in my belly nothing can erase, but he flames it up even more, keeping me in this state of burning for him. So selfish, yet the pleasure he offers me is worth it. Nothing could douse it. His hands travel up my stomach to caress the sides of my breasts. I still for just a second but the feeling is too good. Desire flickers in my belly. Desperate for him, I lock my arms around his neck, needing and demanding more.

Madness and pleasure. Euphoria and bliss. Passion and hunger. That’s what his kisses ignite in me. As if my reaction is all the permission he needs, he cups my breasts, and my nipples pucker. When he lowers his head, biting each tip over my bra, I’m just short of combusting. Clutching the ends of his hair, I throw my head back.

“I want to fuck you so bad. Feel and fill you from the inside out, my sweet Violet.”

He’s so crass. I want him anyway. I ache for him. This desire has been building, and it’s about to spill over.

“Let me fuck you. Wouldn’t it be better to get you out of my system?”

It feels like a bucket of ice water on my head, yanking me away from my pleasure-induced state. Sighing, I hop down from the table and straighten my blouse.

“Dream on.” I sidestep him, my heart clenching at how emotionally handicapped he is. At the door, I look straight ahead and say, “Let’s go. I don’t want to be late.”

With a heavy breath, he says, “Whatever my woman wants.”

I spin to face him. “Your woman? A woman you want for just one night doesn’t make me your woman.”

He stomps over to me, grabs the back of my neck, and leans his forehead on mine. His grip tightens. “You. Are. My woman. Deal with it because you have that bravery inside you.”

Did he just say that I need to be brave to be with him? I don’t think I am ready for someone who consumes me like he does.

We walk to their house in terse silence. When Cameron rings the doorbell, Cato opens the door for us and invites us in. We all scatter around in the living room, me with the girls and Cameron with the guys.

“We missed you,” chimes Aurora.

“I missed you too.”

“Tomorrow, we’re going to brunch,” Chiara says, eyes shining with excitement.

We spend our time talking about my stay with my parents and avoiding any questions related to Cameron. It’s as if they sense the tension and let it slide.

Needing a few moments, I slip through the terrace doors and take in a lungful of air. I feel like I’m halfway there. I may be fond of everyone, but it’s too crowded and noisy.

Alone, my thoughts settle, and my nerves go back on a leash. I turn, feeling a presence behind me.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” Cato says.

“It’s okay... I was just in my head.”

“You saved my life.” Emotions blaze in his eyes. “Thank you. Whatever you need, it’s yours.”

“I just reacted.”

“You could’ve frozen in that moment, yet you caught my daughter.” At this moment, he’s not as intimidating to me. I guess beneath their rough exteriors, men like him are bound by love and devotion to their families. “Do you need some more time alone? No one will get past me.”

“Thank you. I appreciate it, but this is me fighting my own demons.”

He tips his chin. “From where I stand, you’re kicking their asses pretty hard.”

I chuckle, and he holds the door open for me.

When I get back inside, Chiara says, “You should think really hard about what you want from my husband because he won’t stop until he delivers.”

“Why? I mean, I don’t need a favor or anything. Girls, come on. I know you think what I did was heroic, but I swear I had no time to be afraid.”

Chiara shakes her head. “And I swear you’re even more modest than Aurora here.”
