“Do you know how to change a tire? Because I don’t.”
Mara’s expression turns to worry.
She says the one word that actually worries me.
“No.”
Chapter Four
Stranded on the side of the road in the near summer heat, it doesn’t take long for us to let the worry set in.
There’s never a ton of traffic on this road, despite it being the main road in and out of town.
Mara flops down onto the hood of her car. “We could be here for hours.”
I lean against the hood near her feet. “Or we will have to call our parents to come save us.”
“No thanks. I don’t want to do that.”
“Me either, but what other choice do we have?”
“We’re going to have to show more skin and hope some guys think we are hot enough to stop for.”
“I could message Damien.”
I don’t want to pull him away from work and his classes, but I’m sure he would help if I told him what’s going on.
Mara shakes her head. “He’s teaching.”
“Then I guess we just need to wait and see if someone stops and helps us.”
She stretches out her legs and leans back against her windshield. “How will we pass the time?”
“Uh, we could enjoy the sun and relax before classes become a nightmare.”
I close my eyes and tilt my head up to enjoy the sun.
Originally, I went to the Cape to suntan and relax, but that changed the minute I met Damien.
“No offense to you wanting to enjoy the sun and relax, but that sounds boring.”
I turn my head to look her way. “Then what would you like to do while we wait?”
“Tell me more about Damien and your sex-filled week together.”
My face blushes. “What do you want to know?”
“I don’t know. Something, anything, that will help the time pass.”
“Well, he asked me to spend a couple of weeks with him on the Cape this summer.”
“Really? Wow! So, he was already making plans with you before you guys left the Cape last night.”
“Yeah, that has to mean something, right?”
“Well, it doesn’t scream vacation fling to me, but I wonder what he’s going to do and say now that you are in his class for the next eight weeks.”
