Damien has every right to never trust me again, and that thought shatters my heart into a million pieces.

Mara thinks for a few moments before putting things together. “I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume the after stuff was XXX-rated, and that’s what really set him off, but revenge porn is illegal.”

The corner of my lips curl up into a miniscule smile. “I said that too, but Jake said Damien would be fired before anything could legally happen, and there wouldn’t be any proof that he was the one blackmailing me.”

It’s a lose-lose situation with no way out until graduation, but at least Damien and Mara know why I was acting the way I was.

Damien’s voice is low and chilling, like revenge is the only thing on his mind. “He is not going to get away with this.”

I try to calm him down. I’ve never seen Damien like this, so angry and stubborn to make a point. It sends fear down my spine, worrying me.

“Now that everyone knows the truth, we can pretend nothing has changed. Once we graduate, Jake will go his separate way and we can continue living our lives like normal.”

Damien’s fuming. He’s madder than he was when he called me a liar. His face is deep red and his lips are pursed.

He clenches his jaw and closes his eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath.

“There’s no way I am letting him get away with this. Blackmail, revenge porn, threats, and even secret camera recordings- it all ends today. It ends right now. Hell, I’ll drag his ass out of class if I have to.”

A small, soft gasp escapes past my lips as I turn and look toward Mara. I need her help calming him down and getting him to think about this rationally.

I don’t need him flying off the handle when I still think Mara might. There’s no way I can keep up with both of them if they want to confront Jake.

I can plead and beg all I want, but if the two of them team up against me, I’ll lose before the fight can even start.

Do I even want to stop them?

I think about this past week and clench my shirt over my heart. No, I wouldn’t stop them. Jake deserves so much more than an argument from my best friend and my former lover.

But I try to think logically and rationally. Graduation is just around the corner and there’s nothing we can do to erase the past week.

We can only move on and hope nothing like this ever happens again.

Mara glances from me to Damien. “I don’t think the Dean will understand or appreciate you dragging Jake out of class. Shae is right. We need to continue living life as normal as we can.”

When Damien scoffs and turns his angry expression toward her, she holds up her hands in front of her chest to get him to stop and let her speak.

“Let me continue before you get even more upset. Although Shae is right about living life, you are right about not letting Jake get away with this.”

She glances my way and shoots me an apologetic look. “I was willing to let the camera situation slide because he showed us where they were and I’ve kept the cameras locked in my room, but blackmail and revenge porn are too much to let slide.”

My voice comes out as a squeak as I fold my hands and place them on my thighs. “So how do you suppose we handle the situation without getting Damien fired?”

Mara looks down at my folded hands that are resting in my lap before glancing toward Damien. When her gaze meets mine, she says, “We need to have a talk with Jake. Just the three of us. Roommate to roommate to roommate.”

Damien doesn’t say anything, so I assume the meeting is over. Our plan is to talk to Jake and see if we can handle things like adults.

Mara leans over and gives me a tight hug before getting up to leave. Her look says it all. She’s giving me and Damien privacy to talk things over.

I’m grateful and nervous at the same time.

“Wait.” Damien stops her. “Thank you for making this happen. For finding out the truth. I promise I will deal with him legally and calmly in a couple of days when emotions settle, but I think you should wait to have the roommate talk. I need to have a chat with Shae first.”

Mara gives him a small nod and a big smile. “Sure thing, Boss man.”

Damien rolls his eyes at her nickname. “Please, don’t ruffle any feathers just yet. As a matter of fact, you can still make it to class and work on your poses.”

She scrunches up her face in disgust like he just suggested she run a marathon or something. “No, thanks. Besides, it’s been longer than fifteen minutes, so I doubt anyone is still in the classroom.”
