“I’m serious Damien. I know how much the Cape means to you, and this job is the key for that dream to come true. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to that or change your plans, especially if it is my fault.”

He laughs again, and this time it starts to piss me off. My smile disappears almost instantly and is replaced by a tight, thin line.

Does he not care that I care so much?

I care about him, his job, and his dreams. So why is this so funny to him?

“Even if Jake went to the Dean about our relationship, I wouldn’t lose my job.” He chuckles as my eyes widen.

“Huh? Why do you say that? What makes you so sure that the Dean wouldn’t fire you on the spot?”

Jake has the proof and was very adamant that Damien would lose his job.

Did Jake lie to me and hope I didn’t know any better?

Damien reaches toward me and grabs my hands, linking his fingers with mine.

The touch is everything I’ve been missing this past week. It helps soothe the heartache that I brought upon myself.

He stops laughing to explain. “This class isn’t graded like most of your other ones. My class is a pass or fail with no in between. You either show up, try your best, and pass the class, or you don’t show up, don’t try, and fail. It’s really that simple.”

“So…” I try to process what he just said. “So you wouldn’t have gotten in trouble?” I clarify.

He shakes his head while grinning.

“Considering they just made me head of the department, probably not. The dean would probably talk to me and tell me not to be obvious in class and don’t flaunt our relationship during school hours, but no I wouldn’t get in trouble. At the end of the day, we are two consenting adults. We can make our own decisions.”

So Jake was wrong. He didn’t have real leverage to get Damien fired, after all.

The past week comes to the forefront of my mind.

All those wasted days that I could have been with Damien.

All those tears that I shed and the sleepless night for both of us.

“I feel stupid. Really stupid.”

Those are the only words I can say that adequately describe how I am feeling at this moment.

His hand reaches up to cup my chin and lift my face. Our gazes lock onto one another before his lips touch mine.

He mumbles something indiscernible.

I break the kiss and pull back to ask, “What was that?”

He sighs.

“I’m an idiot.” He says quietly before adding, “I should have fought harder. I should have known this wasn’t you. Wasn’t the real you.”

“It’s all in the past.” I whisper as I stand between his legs and press my lips against his.

Of course, there is still a lot the two of us need to talk about, but for now, I just want to feel.

I close my eyes and give into the kiss.

He pulls me closer until my breasts are touching his chest, and my core is touching his shorts.

I arch my back and drag my breasts up his chest. The sensation has the both of us moaning out loud.
