“And be trainable,” Val agreed.

“It was my lunch break, sir. I was back well before my time was up. Please don’t fire me. I’m trying my best and Devlyn will be back soon. She really needs this job.”

Slamming several files on the desk, he snarled. “Just file those, then go get me a coffee.”

Nodding, I picked up the files and got to work as I heard Valerie say, “Come on, darling. We have that meeting with the investors.”

I tried not to let what the mayor said bother me, but I couldn’t stop his words from replaying in my head. I knew Devlyn tolerated this job because of the money she made, but how she dealt with the mayor and his bitchy wife every day was beyond me. I couldn’t do it. Still, I worried about the threat and quickly sent off a text to my sister, telling her to be mindful and watch her back.

Keeping an eye on the clock, I was typing away when I heard a sultry southern accent say, “Hello, Henley.”

Looking up, I stared in shock as the skinny-dipping stud muffin smiled down at me.

Holy fuck.

I think I just came.

Were my panties wet?

Yep, I was positive they were.

He looked even better in clothes.

How was that possible?

Lost in a trance, I didn’t notice when his smile turned to shock and his eyes widened as he stood stock still for a split second before he relaxed and took a seat on the edge of my desk picking up a pen, twirling it between his fingers.

The action mesmerized me as I wondered what else he could do with those fingers.

“So, I was thinking of heading over to the library. Want to go with me? There’s a new book I want to check out.”

Shaking my head, I blinked a few times before muttering, “Excuse me?”

“Books. Library. Wanna go with me?”

“I’m sorry.” I gulped, then asked, “But do we know each other?”

He smiled brightly as mischief danced in his eyes. “Oh, that’s right. You weren’t wearing your glasses the other day. I’m Scribe. The one who rescued you.”

“Oh, God!” I gasped, jumping to my feet. “It was you!”

The stunning skinny-dipping stud muffin I ogled and pleasured myself to was none other than Scribe, the man who saved me.

More importantly, he was the brother who Devlyn asked to look after me.

I was screwed blue and tattooed!

The devilishly handsome man winked. “In the flesh.”

I gulped.

Yeah, I knew what that flesh looked like too. So deliciously decadent, I imagined licking that hunk of meat from top to bottom. It should be a sin for a man to look that damn yummy.

“So, what do you say?”

“Huh?”

He laughed, getting to his feet and shaking his head. “I’ll take that as a yes, darlin’.”
