Trye was by my side the entire time, from the planning to building the complex and purchasing the equipment. He then helped me with the hiring of the most talented people for the job.

And what do I do? I fucking fire him.

Ovi was right. I’d forgotten everything Trye had done for me. Dean might have helped me financially, but Trye supported mein every other way. He was loyal to me. I forgot to pay it back when it was my turn. Was it true that my success was blinding me? Could I be driven by greed?God, I hope not. It’s everything I despise. It’s what my father chose instead of earning an honest wage.

I was only traveling so I could build the business and employ even more people. I paid them more than anyone else in Tabiq did. I wasn’t giving handouts, but I was providing opportunities that they wouldn’t have otherwise. It had a positive ripple effect throughout their families. I couldn’t make up for whatever my father had done, but at least I was trying to be the opposite of what he was.

Picking up a photo of Ovi with her parents, I might have a lot to give her, but damn, she could do so much better than me.

“You look like you’re in deep thought. Hopefully, it’s about Ibby,” Ovi said as she joined me in the living room again.

Placing the photo back on the table, I turned and found her dressed in an oversized T-shirt and pair of shorts.

“I guess I should’ve grabbed something else to wear as well.”

“My father left a lot of his clothes here. Would you like me to go and see if I can find something for you?” she offered.

I appreciated her offer, but I was feeling enough guilt already. I didn’t need to wear the guy's clothes too. It’s already bad enough that I’m the reason why he’s not here.

“I’m comfortable,” I lied.

“You’re wearing a suit,” she said, wrinkling her cute little nose at me.

I took off my jacket and tossed it on the couch. “Is that better?” I asked.

Ovi shrugged and said, “If that is what you enjoy as loungewear, who am I to complain? I know the first thing I do when I get home is take off all those stuffy clothes.”Hmm…I’d like to see that.“I like to be more...relaxed.”

She definitely looked relaxed right now. Not just in her attire, even her body language said she was at ease. I had seen some of that last night on the beach. It was nice seeing her like that again.

“I’d say that we could change the dress code, but I think shorts and t-shirts are a bit too casual for the workplace,” I stated.

She chuckled. “Darn. I think my feet would have loved being in my fluffy slippers all day.”

I looked down at her feet and laughed. They were white, furry, and huge with claws for toes. It wasn’t something I expected her to have on. “Umm. Maybe you can be the company mascot?”

“Hey, that’s a great idea. Or maybe we can give away a pair of these slippers with each customer order,” she stated.

Oh God. She looks serious about this.

“I’m not sure how we would manage that,” I replied, trying not to hurt her feelings by shutting down her suggestion.

“Niko. I was joking. But I am glad to see that you were at least willing to take my suggestions into consideration. Maybe next time I will present something worth considering,” she grinned. “Right now, I guess we should grab our laptops and start working.”

“Absolutely not,” I said firmly.

Her mouth gaped open. “Why not? I thought we agreed to work together to help Ibby and his family.”

“We did. But you had stated that you hadn't eaten yet today. I ordered food to be delivered. It should be here any minute.”

Unlike other countries, Tabiq didn’t have a delivery service. Either you had it or could go get it yourself. Since I wasn’t going to leave her side even for a second, I needed to pull another favor. Dean's only response when I asked was yes followed by alot of laughter. I could deal with that. Not sure how, but Dean and I seemed to have become friends.

There was a knock on her front door, and she looked at me suspiciously. “You seem to be able to pull off the impossible.”

Getting you to forgive and forget that I fired your father is one I can’t seem to manage.

“Would you like me to answer it?”

“Yes, I’d love to know your secret,” she said.
