"Three boxes out of about twenty?” Nathan says. “That’s not a very good percentage, Danielle.” He stops right next to the bed, his shirt unbuttoned and pants unzipped.

"I tried to incentivize him."

If I didn't know Nathan as well as I do, I would've missed the tiny hint of a twitch at the corner of his mouth. "I think we all know that Crew is incapable of being disciplined unless there’s a hockey stick in his hand. And even then, it’s questionable how much he actuallylearns."

I start wiggling harder as he drops his pants and shrugs out of his shirt.

"I was hoping to come home and reward you for being a good girl," he says. "But I guess it's punishment for a naughty girl instead."

My eyes go to Crew. "You have to help me. This is your fault."

He pulls his T-shirt on. "I think I’m going to go down and set a new high score on Alien Hunters."

My eyes go wide. "Crew!" That’s the only one of our video games that I've actually beat him at. I currently hold the high score.

He smirks. "Play with you later, naughty girl." And he leaves.

He doesn't even want to watch.

Oh, he’s in so much trouble later.

"I am so glad that you're naughty sometimes," Nathan says gruffly.

Then he flips me over to my stomach, my hands still tied to the headboard, pulls my ass up, and gives me a sharp smack.

And I forget all about video games, high scores, and revenge plots.

At least for now.

CHAPTER 4

Michael

“Are you cold?”I ask Dani, pulling her tighter against my chest and rubbing her forearms. I have a blanket wrapped around us but it’s still spring in Chicago, so there’s a definite bite in the night air.

She turns to smile up at me, her green eyes shining in the soft glow of our deck lights. “A little, but it’s fine. I’m enjoying the view. Michael, we have ayard. In the city. And this beautiful house.”

We’re out on the back deck, snuggled up under a blanket in a chaise lounge chair that was delivered a few days ago before we moved in. We’re up to our ears in boxes that Crew still hasn’t touched—Dani either, for that matter, since we spent half of the afternoon breaking in our new bed—but the chaos isn’t bothering me. Not right now. Not when I have this moment of calm with the girl I love.

Her hair is tickling my nose, her ass tucked up against my dick and thighs, and the neighbors' houses are all crowded around ours, lights going on and off as people shift around inside, going about their nightly routines. The domestic vibe is almost as comforting as having Dani leaning on me.

I’m so fuckingcontentin this moment, I almost can’t believe it.

“I haven’t had a yard since I left Decatur,” I tell her. “It’s amazing, isn’t it? Even if it is the size of a postage stamp.” It’s mostly consumed by the deck and the garage but there’s a tiny patch of grass that is giving me life. I’m going to add some raised garden beds as soon as the weather breaks.

“It is amazing. So is the house.” Dani raises her lips, questing a kiss.

I brush my mouth over hers.

“Thank you for giving me this,” she says softly. “All of this. I’m so happy.”

“Me too,” I say gruffly, emotion getting the best of me. Sometimes I’m almost overwhelmed by how I fucking love and need this woman. “I’ll give you anything you want, sweetheart. Anything.”

“I already have everything.”

Except my ring on her finger. Which I’ve been thinking about more and more these last couple of months.

I know it’s fast but my feelings are real. With Dani, everything has clicked into place and I want to just keep moving forward.
