“No, Matthew. Let me go. I can explain,” Samantha cries.

Gripping Samantha by her hair, the Senator begins to drag her from the stage. “Shut the fuck up. You evil, conniving bitch.” Baker’s arm raises, swinging down with such force I swear I can hear the whoosh in his mic.

Samantha goes limp, and he catches her, then storms out of sight.

“Holy shit,” Sebastian blurts. “You think the hit killed her?”

If only we could be so lucky.

“Doubt it,” Wyatt mumbles.

There’s a crash before gunshots ring out. “Don’t shoot, you idiots. The President wants them alive,” some asshole orders.

I watch as Owen crosses the room and leisurely leans against the wall. “I’m guessing Franky isn’t happy that those two are primarily responsible for Isabella being taken,” he smirks.

Laughing, I add, “Or the fact that the Senator was trying to kill her.” Even though part of me wants to melt the plastic tramp in acid after playing kickball with her face, a larger part of me is glad we won’t have to worry about either of them ever again.

“Fuck! We lost them. Tell the gamma team to cut from the right. Then, have the delta and theta come from the side and the rear. We’re going to create a bottleneck,” another agent shouts.

“Okay, handing back control to the network,” Teagan announces as a black car speeds out from some part of the property.

Ariah’s head whips in my direction. “They’re getting away,” she hisses, grabbing her stomach.

Dropping my laptop on the couch, I jump from my seat as a breaking news report appears on the television.

“Good evening, I’m Sondra Chen, reporting live from the Jacobi News Network chopper, and we have breaking news. Senator Matthew Baker and his wife and sister, Samantha Baker, have escaped.” Sondra reports as they fly through the air.

“I’m fine. That one was just sharper,” Ariah breathes.

Sebastian, Wes, Owen, and I surround her while Wyatt massages her lower back. “I don’t like it, Riri,” Wyatt grumbles.

Owen’s gaze snaps to mine. “Call the doctor.”

“Already done,” Teagan yells from the computer speakers. “Dr. Jaffri is on her way to the house.”

Ariah holds up her hand, trying to wave her off. “You guys are making a big deal out of. . . Fuuuuck!” Ariah screams.

“Senator Matthew Baker is racing down the George Washington Parkway at speeds of up to one hundred and ten miles per hour. On a rain-slick night like tonight, there’s an increased chance—Holy shit,” the new anchor swears. “The senator and his wife’s vehicle slammed into the guardrail before flipping over into the Delaware River.”

“Let’s get her to the medical wing,” Wes barks, scooping her up and running from the room. Owen and Sebastian are quick to follow suit.

I snap my laptop shut, knowing I don’t need to tell Teagan we have to leave. I’m at the doorway when a loud boom blares through the TV. The news anchor speaks as I enter the hallway.

“There’s been an explosion. The vehicle Senator Matthew Baker and his wife were driving went over the edge, and the car burst into flames before exploding.”

Breathtaking. That’s the only way to describe the scene before me.

“In through your nose, Angel,” Owen coaxes, counting with her. The look she’s giving him—all of us is priceless.

“I’m going to pretend I don’t want to castrate you all for this p—” Ariah’s words cut off, and her face twists in anguish.

Our daughter, Zoey, and our son, Aidan, are resting skin-to-skin on their mother’s chest.

“Do you need anything?” Lev asks, pouring her a cup of water.
