“I’m sorry,” I say, finally stopping for breath. “Babbling. I’m just nervous.”

“What are you nervous about, beautiful? Tell me.”

He reaches for my cheek, cupping it and rubbing it gently with the calloused pad of his thumb, calming me slightly.

“Okay…” I say. “Okay…I’m just gonna say it.” Nash nods encouragingly and I take a deep breath. “I’m pregnant.”

Nash’s eyes go wide, his jaw slack with shock. “You’re…” His eyes flicker down to my stomach. “You’re pregnant?”

I swallow hard, nodding. “I missed my last period and took a couple of tests this morning while you were working.”

My heart is fluttering like wings beating against my chest. When I saw those two lines show up on the test, I nearly fell over. I can’t believe I’m going to be a mom, but I can’t wait. It’s scary as heck, but my fear is totally overshadowed by my crazy excitement. I just hope Nash will be as happy as me.

“Ava…” he says, his voice hoarse. “That’s…that’s fucking amazing!” His face splits into a grin, his eyes glimmering with emotion as he throws his arms around me, pulling me close. “Oh my God, I can’t believe it. We’re going to be parents.”

I nod, tears welling in my eyes. “I know. It’s crazy!”

“Are you happy, sugar?”

“Yes!” I squeeze my husband tight. “I’m so happy. I can’t wait to start a family with you.”

Nash pulls back to look at me, his gaze full of so much love that it takes my breath away. “Me neither. Fuck, I love you so much, beautiful. You’re my whole world.”

“I love you too.” My heart is threatening to overflow as Nash showers me with kisses, his lips brushing against every part of exposed skin that he can reach. I giggle and melt against him, glowing with happiness as we embrace beneath the wish tree. “Happy New Year, Nash.”

“Happy New Year, beautiful.”

I smile.

Something tells me this New Year’s will be our happiest yet.
