Dylan sauntered over to her, dropping to her knees. She blew a soft breath over her sex, then said, “Perform for me, Miss Delgado.”

At that moment, Ari wasted no time reaching between her legs and stroking her folds, her hips rolling with the rhythm. It didn’t take long for a dribble of cum to seep from her center, coating her finger. The sweet smell of her womanhood drifted to Dylan’s nostrils, which she inhaled deep into her lungs and sent the sensory impulses downward. As Ari’s breathing deepened, Dylan knew she was on the verge of a pulsating climax. Her own edged to the surface too. If she wanted this woman to come, Dylan might do so as well.

She stood up. “You can stop now. Thank you.”

Ari’s hand stopped.

Dylan pulled away from her body and shot up, her back stiffening with a pop of every vertebra.

“Wait. What? I thought you– I was about to come.”

“Yes, you were. The assessment is over. Thank you. I’ll be in touch tomorrow or the next day regarding the job,” Dylan stated in a very professional tone.

Confused, hot, and bothered, Ari continued, “You can’t be serious. I just—”

“That was the audition, Miss Delgado. Again, we will be in touch. Thank you.”

As Dylan turned to exit the room, Ari huffed with an irritated groan. “What about my underwear?”

“What about them?” A glint of arrogance in her words.

“I can’t leave without them. My dress is too short,” Ari protested, her hand held out for them.

“I suggest you don’t bend over.” Dylan chuckled at Ari’s priceless look of shock. “Thank you again for coming. Expect an email of our decision.”

With that, the audition was over. Dylan scooted off to the office as Ari sulked from the bedroom. Cooper ushered her to the door and closed it behind her. With her hands laced behind her head, Dylan leaned back in her chair, thinking perhaps she had finally found the right submissive.

Chapter 9

Ari’s hand slammed against the glass with a force that startled people coming and going as she exited The Silo’s lobby. With a burst of anger, Ari stormed onto the street, feeling violated as the memory replayed in her mind. She couldn’t wrap her head around how she allowed that woman to manipulate her into a total disregard of her morals.

“What the fuck was that?” Ari asked herself, almost shouting in the afternoon twilight.

In the past, she had done some revolting things, such as eating someone else’s food from the trash for the sake of a job. But this was far worse. A complete stranger took advantage of her and somehow convinced her to bare herself for what ... a “don’t call us, we’ll call you” brush off? Her heels clacked on the sidewalk, slamming down in frustration toward the L-Line. She grabbed her phone and dialed Billie, needing to vent.

As soon as Billie answered, a torrent of questions rained down upon her. “Hey, how’d it go? Did you get the job? What are you gonna be doing? Where are you now?”

The mere sound of Billie’s voice mollified her anger a few notches. Even with the multitude of questions demanding her response, it was Billie’s enthusiasm that always carried Ari through difficult times. This was one of them. “So, hi. I’m on my way back to my place.”

“Then I’m on my way there too. Tell me, did you get the job? Did you have to perform in this so-called audition?”

Typical Billie. Of course she’d come running, as she always did. Ari tugged at her dress again as she picked up her pace toward the train, continuing to discuss with her friend. “The answer is ... I don’t know. They brushed me off and said they’d just email me. It was a long shot, honestly. Did Terry believe that those rich weirdos would take one look at me and hire me on the spot?”

“Well, that sucks. If you don’t get it, what are you going to do next?”

“Sell myself on the street corner because I’m gonna have to pull that advance out of my ass and give it back to CityBeats.”

Over the past year, with the cost of living increasing by the hour, the idea of sex work had crossed her mind a few times. The last two years saw a significant increase in corruption linked to the political shift during the election. The new mayor was a Mafia crony to ensure control over the city’s economy. Those who could not afford to flee the rising cost of rent, food, and utilities found themselves in desperate situations. Many resorted to working in the recently legalized sex trade to make ends meet.

Billie always had something positive to say. “You could rent a room at The Pendulum offering two-for-one deals.”

The sound of Ari’s chuckle at Billie’s comment carried up the stairs with her as she approached the transit platform. The cool breeze ruffled her dress, providing some relief from the heat caused by Dylan’s tease. The sensation prompted her to check for anyone walking under the staircase. Confident no one was close behind or beneath, Ari proceeded upward. The ride home would be awkward as she needed to keep her knees pressed together, almost as if she needed to pee. The vulnerability showed in her eyes, but she created a forced grin to ward off any prying eyes.

The phone rang for the umpteenth time. Terry was on the other end of the unanswered call. She avoided him while she waited for the vile woman from Adytum to make up her mind. It was a decision she dreaded because it came with too many consequences. If she got rejected, Ari had to come up with a thousand dollars to pay back CityBeats, but if they approved her, she knew very well that she’d have to play circus monkey for a plethora of sexually deviant women. While in limbo, the weight of the world fell on her shoulders. She held her head high with all the strength she could muster until she couldn’t.

A day or two, as the woman said, had come and gone. There had been no contact from Adytum. With each passing hour, her future looked grim in more ways than one. She had used the money from CityBeats for rent. Returning it and not receiving any more meant that she would lose her apartment. Homelessness in a cruel city was horrible to those on the streets.

She glanced at the little frame next to her tattered sofa, which held a photo of her and her mother hugging at her graduation. Her mother had worked two jobs to cover half of Ari’s college education—the portion that her loans didn’t. She felt like a disappointment as she tipped the frame over to avoid her mother’s loving smile, which seemed to sense her impending failure.
