"We were talking pet peeves." I took another sip of my drink. "Next question, if you could be anywhere in the entire world where would you be?"

Without missing a beat, he replied, "Right here. I'd be right here with you. I don't think there's anywhere else I'd rather be."

My heart picked up in my chest. A steady beating drum.

There really was no other man like Alexander. No man capable of making my heart pound in my chest, my hands to become sweaty, or make me feel lightheaded.

I curled my foot around his leg. "There's nowhere else I'd rather be either."

We spent the night getting to know each other. By the end of the night, I'd learned that Alexander's middle name was Seth, he'd had a pet fish when he was a kid, he was a huge fan of rock music, Saturday morning cartoons were a guilty pleasure of his, and he'd only smoked once in his life.

Even after we finished dinner and ordered dessert, we were still talking and laughing. Talking to Alexander always felt so easy. Whether we were flirting or having an actual conversation or discussing road signs, the words poured out of me with no hesitation.

I didn't have to think too much when it came to him. It was one of the things I loved about him.

I froze for a moment. We were leaving the restaurant and heading back to his car when the realization hit me. I was falling in love with him. A few days ago, I'd only thought of it, but now... I glanced up at him. His tousled brown hair, the genuine smile on his face, and the slightly extra bounce in his walk. I thought about his eyes that were always focused on me, the weight that lifted from my shoulders at the sight of him, the warmth of his skin.

Yes. I was in love with him, and it was wonderful. I wouldn't want it to be anything else.

Chapter Ten Alexander

I parked my car in front of Sophia's apartment. Neither one of us made any move to step out. Sophia cleared her throat.

"I had a nice time tonight."

I turned to her. My breath sucked in at the sight. She was beautiful. A beauty that I had all night to look at and yet still I couldn't get used to it.

Her deep brown curls, the light makeup that accentuated her beauty, and the mind-blowing dress that she wore.

I nodded to her. "I did too."

"I should probably go up to my apartment." She unbuckled her seatbelt. "But I, well," she giggled. "I don't want the night to end yet." She reached over and grabbed my hand. "So, I was wondering if you would like to come up for maybe a drink or something."

"I'd like that."

"Good. Come on."

We got out of the car. I followed behind her as she walked. The curve of her hips in that sinful red dress had me increasing the pace at which I walked.

She fumbled with the keys to her apartment. Then, finally, she got it open. Her apartment was small and warm. Cozy.

I'd always lived in luxury with large TVs and modern furniture. Sophia's apartment, while nice, was the exact opposite; yet strangely, I found myself drawn to it. For some reason, I felt at ease here.

She went to the open kitchen area. "What would you like to drink? I have beer, water, and a half bottle of whiskey."

"Whiskey, please."

"Alright." She grabbed the drinks and a glass. Placing them down on the coffee table, she sat with her legs folded beneath her on the sofa. I laid my jacket on the back of her couch and mirrored her position.

I poured myself a glass and we toasted. I sipped the cool liquid. It burned my throat on the way down.

She tapped her nails on her glass. "Thank you for tonight."

"You don't have to thank me. I should be thanking you." I took a deep breath. "I was really nervous about asking you to dinner. I know the last couple of weeks we've been flirting. I wasn't sure if you liked me for more than that."

I finished off the rest of my drink. "I know everyone thinks that being rich is so easy. I have money; what do I have to complain about? But it's hard. I don't date much because most people only want me for my money. I just want someone who listens to me when I talk and wants to be with me." My voice went quiet, "I guess at one point I stopped trying to find love and stuck to only sex. It hurt less."

I paused and she grabbed my hand. I turned to her with a smile. "With you though, it's different. You don't make me feel like I'm just a rich person. I'm more than my achievements to you. I'm just me. It's a refreshing feeling to just be yourself."
