"I do." He nodded. "I love you, Sophia. I love you more than I thought was possible." He scratched behind his head. "For the longest time, I was scared of love. I feared showing real emotions, anything other than complete confidence. I was scared to open up."

"But with you, it was so easy. When it comes to you, everything is easy. Being with you is like breathing. I never realized when I started doing it, and yet now I can't live without it. I can't live without you. You're this never ending sun in my life. You give everything color and meaning. You make me a better person. You make me happy. You make every day worth living."

Alexander was standing directly in front of me now. Slowly, he lowered himself down to one knee. I gasped and my hands flew to my mouth. It was a proposal.

"I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He brought a box out from behind his back. Then, he took my hand in his. "I want to grow old with you. I want to watch our son grow up together. I want to wake up with your body against mine, and I want to fall asleep to the sound of your snoring."

I laughed lightly. "I want to make you laugh every single day. I want to watch those holiday movies you love so much. I want to hold you when you start tearing up. I want to make you breakfast in the morning. I want to cuddle with you at night. I want to be your shoulder to cry on. I want you to be my wife. I want forever with you."

My heart pounded loudly in my chest. My vision was blurred by tears. "Please tell me you want the same."

With one swift flick, he opened the small box. Inside lay the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. The centerpiece was a dazzling princess-cut diamond. It glittered in the living room lights. The band was thin and silver with intricate designs. Tears slipped out of my eyes and trailed over my cheeks.

"What do you say?"

"I say that you're an idiot for thinking there would be a universe where I said no." I tackled him to the floor and kissed him. He laughed against my mouth and pulled me closer.

"Is that a, yes?"

"Of course, it's a yes. It's a million times yes." I stared into his eyes. The warm brown orbs I'd come to adore. The eyes I found so much comfort in. "You're the love of my life, of course I'll marry you."

"I was nervous." He slipped the ring onto my finger easily. "I always get nervous whenever it comes to you. I meant what I said, I can't imagine a life without you."

"Well good. Because neither can I."

Alexander raised a hand to my cheek, gently grazing his knuckles against my skin. He wiped away the tear tracks and my eyes fluttered closed at his touch. He cupped my face and then pressed his lips to my own softly.

"Then I think we're going to be together for a really long time."

I laughed, the memory from two years ago was still fresh in my mind. "I would like nothing more."

He laid down on the floor and I curled up in his arms. I felt him kiss the top of my head and I sighed in perfect bliss.

"I've never been happier," he mumbled. He rolled his finger around a lock of my hair. "I never thought I could be this happy and yet I am. You're the best thing in my life, Sophia. I'm really glad that I met you."

"I know exactly what you mean."

We stayed there on the floor. The steady beating of his heart served as a white noise for me. I felt fatigue begin to come over me. Xander crawled to us and then wrapped himself up in his father's arms.

"How's my favorite guy doing today?" Alexander tickled his sides and he shrieked with laughter.

I laid against Alexander's chest, watching the two most important men in my life with half-open eyes. I felt infinitely grateful. Grateful for everything in my life that had brought me to this point.

To an extent, I was even grateful for Chris. I was glad Chris had cheated on me. Glad for my previous awful job. Glad for everything that led me to Alexander.

I grinned to myself and shut my eyes, content to listen to their laughter. I took a deep breath and let it flow out gently.

This was love. This wonderful, intoxicating feeling. This feeling that wove itself into my bones, very being. This was it, and I would revel in it for every day for the rest of my life.
