“Electric and passionate like it would be right now,” she reasons.

I grind my teeth as the stupid thing is, I know I’m going to fuck her. However, I still have a tiny shred of morality left. And I can’t let Madison’s first time be in the middle of a fucking church where anyone could walk in.

“Not here,” I breathe, clawing my fingers into her hips. “Not now. Now I need to tend to your skin.”

Her eyes fill with unshed tears, and I sense she feels unwanted.

“Believe me, baby girl. I want to fuck you so goddamn badly, but I want to do right.” I kiss her, trying to ease her disappointment. “Please let me do that for you.”

When I pull back, she nods in response. “Okay,” she breathes.

“Come on.” I grab her hand and gather her clothes in the other, taking her into the bathroom at the back of the church. Grabbing a clean washcloth, I run the faucet on the sink until it’s at the optimum temperature before soaking the cloth and then gently working on the wax on her skin, easing it away.

Madison is quiet while I work, her expression unreadable.

Once the wax is gone, I pick up a bottle of lotion from the counter. “This will help with the redness and the sting,” I explain before gently massaging it into her skin. The room fills with a soothing scent, and I watch as she closes her eyes, a soft sigh escaping her lips.

I finish, but I don’t let go. I pull my little doe into my arms, holding her against me tightly. She fits perfectly like she’s meant to be in my arms. “You okay?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

She nods against my chest, her arms winding around my waist as she buries her face against me. We stay like that for a while, just holding each other. The silence is comfortable and natural as if we’ve done this a thousand times before.

A dangerous comfort. As nothing good can come from this. I’m on a train heading for the edge of a fucking cliff with no track left, and for some reason, I find myself not caring. I’ll dive head-first off a cliff for this girl.

MADISON

Acar horn honks outside the cottage, and I scramble to put my phone in my purse and sling it over my shoulder.

I overslept, which isn’t like me at all.

Eva is picking me up to take me to Buffalo to visit the hardware store. The cottage is tired and I need some paint and new light fittings to make it more homely.

As I reach the door, a sense of unease ripples through me. I always try to avoid more populated towns as there are too many people.

Shaking my head, I force myself out the door and smile as Eva waves. “Hey, thanks for picking me up,” I say as I slip into the passenger’s side.

“No problem, you’re on my way to Buffalo, anyway.”

We drive for a few minutes in silence before Eva finally speaks up. “So, how do you like Fordhurst so far?” She asks, looking at me from the corner of her eye.

I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. The question is difficult to answer, as I haven’t been here long enough. Often, I avoid getting too attached to a place because I’m forced to move around, constantly on the run.

“It’s alright,” I reply. “I’m still getting used to it.”

Eva nods her head in understanding. “It can be hard when you first move somewhere new,” she says before clearing her throat and changing the subject slightly. “I heard Father Jensen got you a job at the bookstore? He often helps newcomers, especially since he owns many local businesses.”

At the mention of Dante’s name, my heart starts pounding in my chest, and I look away quickly so she won’t see my expression. I can’t help but think back to last night and what we did in the church. It was downright sinful, and I am ashamed of how much I enjoyed it. And then begged him to fuck me, which he refused to do.

“Yeah, he’s been helpful,” I stammer, hoping she doesn’t notice how much his mention derails me.

Eva doesn’t notice, continuing to talk about him.

“He’s a good person,” she says. “I’m sure he could help you with anything you need.”

My heart clenches, and I nod in agreement, hoping my shame isn’t written all over my face. No one can know that I let the priest eat me out twice in his church.

We continue on our journey, making small talk until we finally reach the hardware store in Buffalo. Eva pulls up to the curb and looks at me. “Do you need me to come in with you?”
