His hands are everywhere, ripping at my clothes. He pushes me to the floor, straddling my hips, his hands moving against my flesh. The way he touches me makes me sick. I cry out when he slaps me, his hand closing around my throat, his fingers digging into my neck.

“You’re going to pay for this. All those nights, you should have been keeping my bed warm; now you’re going to take it any way I can give it to you,” he hisses.

“Eric, please don’t,” I plead, trying to writhe from his grasp.

“Shut up, or I’ll fucking kill you!” he yells into my ear.

I stop moving, tears streaming down my face. “Eric, I’m supposed to be your wife. This isn’t how you should treat your wife.”

“You were supposed to be my wife, but you ran away,” he snarls. “Now, you’re going to be my whore.”

The door to the cottage swings open, and relief floods me when I see Dante standing there, his eyes wide with rage.

“Eric!” he growls.

My brow furrows, hearing him say my husband’s name.

How does he know his name?

Eric releases me long enough for me to rush away from him, putting some distance between us.

“Dante?” He shakes his head. “What the fuck? We thought you were dead.”

Dante’s jaw clenches as his eyes move between Eric and me. “Is this the man you’ve been running from?”

I swallow hard and nod. “How did you find me?” I ask as this is a record for him.

Eric sneers at me. “You weren’t very careful about your social media presence this time. A girl called Harper posted some photos of you and other girls having a fucking picnic. My men had systems scanning for any match, and it flagged up instantly.”

“Go and wait in the bedroom, little doe,” Dante says.

“Why the fuck are you calling my wife little doe?” Eric growls.

“Because she’s mine.” He steps closer. His towering frame overshadows Eric, even though Eric’s not small at six foot four. “And I’m going to finish what I should have all those years ago.”

Eric’s jaw clenches. “I’d like to see you try.”

Dante’s fists clench. “You know you’re no match for me.”

I shake my head. “How do you know each other?”

The two of them glare at me, but Eric speaks. “This piece of shit let our outfit high and dry four years ago. Left with a lot of our cash and disappeared without a fucking trace. A bit like you.” His eyes narrow as he looks at Dante and his priest collar. “Don’t tell me you’re a fucking priest now?”

Dante tilts his head to the side. “I’m on the straight and narrow.”

Eric laughs, throwing his head back. “You can’t erase all the terrible things you did. Are you insane?”

Dante steps forward, and I wonder whether I know this man. I believed he was safe because he was a priest. Then he showed me his dark side, but I never believed he was wrapped up in the same world I’ve been running from. The world I was born into. I believed I was escaping the world of crime that has held me captive for too many years, only to find the man I’ve been fucking and falling for is one of them.

“And what’s one more life on my hands?” he questions, moving closer to Eric. “If you don’t give her an annulment, I’ll just annul your life.”

Eric’s jaw tightens, and he shakes his head. “I’ll never annul my marriage with her. She’s mine.”

Dante laughs darkly. “She’s not yours. I’m the one who took her virginity.”

Eric growls, launching himself at Dante.

I stand in stunned silence as the two grapple on the ground, fists flying and clothes ripping apart. The sounds of their grunts and growls echo through my little cottage.
