MADISON

The next morning, I can hardly focus on anything but what happened in the back of the church.

I came while the priest licked me to orgasm, and I loved every second. It was wrong. Sinful. He’s rough, and there’s darkness in him. I sense it when I look into his eyes. And it scares me a little, but he’s not like Eric, my husband.

I felt as guilty as sin when he snapped and asked me to leave.

Walking down the main street of Fordhurst, it’s almost impossible not to feel self-conscious when people mutter and stare at me. I know it’s because I’m new, but it makes me worry that somehow someone knows about the way I waltzed into town and seduced the priest.

My stomach churns as I come to a stop outside of the town’s diner, Sunshine Diner. It’s not an original name, but I need a job to set roots here and stop burning through the cash I stole from Eric.

I open the door, and the bell above it chimes, signaling my arrival.

A woman comes over, smiling widely. “Would you like a table?”

I shake my head. “No, I was hoping to drop in my resume.” I lift the piece of paper. “I’m new in town and looking for a job.”

Her brow furrows, and her expression turns hard. “We don’t have any vacancies.”

I nod. “I thought that may be the case, but I wondered if you could keep hold of my resume in case you get any openings?”

She turns her nose up but grabs the resume out of my hand. “I’ll pass it to the boss, but he’s rarely in since he’s busy at church.”

“At church?” I ask.

She raises a brow. “Yes, Father Jenson owns the diner.” She glances out of the large windows at the front. “Come to think of it, he owns much of this town. He was rich before becoming a priest, so he invested in the local community.”

My stomach dips and I nod, desperate to get out of there. “Oh, I see. Well, thanks for your help.” I give her an awkward little wave and then turn to head out of the diner, only to slam right into a solid wall of muscle.

I crane my neck to gaze into those beautiful dark brown eyes that stared at me between my thighs only yesterday morning.

“Hello, Madison,” he murmurs, stepping back to put some distance between us. “What are you doing here?”

I glance back at the waitress, but she’s already disappeared. “I was dropping my resume in since I’m new to town.” I look back at him, and the intensity in his gaze steals the air from my lungs. “She mentioned you’re the boss. I didn’t know.”

“I’m sure I can find a position for you somewhere, but the diner has no vacancies.” He runs a hand through his hair. “Why don’t you drop by the church early this afternoon, and we’ll look at options?”

My mouth turns dry because I don’t think it’s a good idea for us to be alone, not after what happened after his sermon. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?” I say, making sure no one else can hear.

He smiles, and it’s goddamn heartbreaking how beautiful he looks. “No, but you should come anyway.” A glint of mischief ignites in his eyes, and I know he’s thinking about what happened yesterday. “How about some breakfast on me?” he asks.

Being in his presence is difficult enough. “Oh, I couldn’t?—”

“You can and you will,” he says, his voice dropping an octave. “Sit with me.” It’s not a question but a demand, as he places his hand on my back and ashes me toward an empty table.

“Okay,” I murmur.

The waitress, who was a bitch about my resume, comes over with a fake smile plastered on her face. “What can I get you, sir?” she asks.

“Bring me a plate of pancakes,” Dante says, looking at her sternly. “And whatever Madison would like.”

I meet her death stare. “I’ll have pancakes, too, and a cappuccino, please.”

“Coming right up.”

She goes to get our order, leaving Dante and me alone. He’s sexy in his priest gown, but in casual clothes, he makes me want to get on my knees and beg him to take my virginity. A tight shirt stretches over his muscular chest, and the ink I noticed over his collar before is even more visible across his chest and arms, making my mouth water.

He steeples his fingers as he looks at me. “I should apologize for yesterday.”
