"I need theprogress on the pharmaceutical company."

"I have it righthere." She took a deep breath to quiet her nerves and wonderedif he was going to fire her for her bluntness which could bemisconstrued as being rude.

"Please, don'tget up." He drawled as he pushed away from his desk. "Iwouldn’t want to inconvenience you more than I already have."

She stayed where shewas and watched as he rose and came toward her. He’d taken offhis jacket and pushed up the sleeves of his sweater, revealingpowerful forearms, the dark hairs lying against the tanned skin. Shefelt the heat creeping through her body as he lowered himself intothe chair next to her.

"The report?"

"Oh. Yes, here."She practically shoved it at him and tried to move as far away fromhim as possible. He was turned sideways, his left knee a few inchesfrom hers. The space was too confined and the scent of his colognewas tickling her senses.

His presence was sooverpowering it was swamping her and making her dizzy. Shaking herhead, she turned away to look at the mesmerizing flames of theelectronic fire in the hearth.

Her attention driftedto the painting above the mantel and she found herself riveted by thepoignant setting of a man sat on a log, armed with a fishing pole inhis hands. A desolate cabin was in the background with a womanstanding inside the doorway looking at him.

Next to her, Nashwatched the expression on her face and found himself staring at thepainting Miriam had given him a few weeks ago.

"Ms. Simpson?"

She turned to look athim and, for a few seconds, their eyes met and held, somethingindefinable passing between them. "The artist," Her voicewas husky with emotion as she stared at him. "Who is it?"

"A friend."He clipped, feeling the snare of lust and the punch of it grippinghim tight.

"He or she isvery good. I can almost feel the woman's misery as she looks at theman. Unrequited love or something like that."

Nash lifted his headto look at the painting with a frown on his forehead.

"Or I’mjust being unrealistic." The husky voice made him turn his headto look at the woman next to him and he had the overpowering urge tokiss her. She was wearing red lip gloss which highlighted her fullbottom lip.

Feeling the surge ofhis cock, he lunged to his feet, his frown becoming threatening.Striding over to his desk, he stood there staring at the desktopbecause he couldn’t look at her. What the hell was going onwith him?

“Mr. Hamilton?”The soft, cultured voice made him even angrier.

“That’sall.” He told her tightly, trying to keep a rein on hisirrational surge of temper. “You may go.”

Rising to her feetslowly, she came toward the desk.

“What the helldo you want?” He snapped.

Her shoulders squaredand her dark brown eyes flashed. “If you’re finished withthe folder?“

“Here.”He shoved it at her as she stood in front of his desk.

“You know,common courtesy doesn’t require a lot.”

His eyes glittered ather.

“You should trypracticing it.” Before he could blast her, she turned andgracefully walked out of the office, hips swaying provocativelybeneath the clingy material of her pants. Leaning his head back, heclosed his eyes and fought the shuddering inside him. His violentreaction to her nearness, seeing her seductively shaped lips had sethim off. It was unacceptable and he was going to have to stay awayfrom her.

His intercom soundedcausing him to jump in reflex. Pressing the button, he snapped.“Yes?”

“Yourappointment is in the conference room, sir.” If his assistantwas puzzled by his sharp response, she didn’t reveal it.

“I’ll bethere shortly.” Taking a deep breath, he decided a visit toMiriam was in order.
